Good Ole country cooking. OK so the food was good but no ‘heavens parting for us’ :(As a foodie city girl driving from Orlando to Tampa looking for something different this was a little disappointing. This is definitely a dive but no problems there and the staff was super friendly – we were just looking for heavens to part. Everything was fresh and tasty but not awesome as other reviews suggested. If I was driving right by I might stop but probably would not jump off the interstate again.
What a little gem!! My sweetie and I decided to take a little road trip this afternoon and were told about country fish and chicken. If you’re wanting a cute little place with a scenic view and a whiny waitress named Brittany, then this isn’t the place for you. If, however, you’re looking for good home cooked chicken and fish served in an open-air environment, then this is your place. We had the fish dinner combo fried in cornmeal batter and OMG! It was smack your momma good! The combo came with two sides. I had the collard greens and mashed potatoes and gravy. So good I think the heavens parted slightly!! My sweetness had he Mac and cheese and corn on the cob for his sides – holy cow were they good! We also decided to split a piece of pound cake and it too was dynamite. Moist and lemony. A perfect end to a perfect meal. Lakeland is a bit of a drive for us but we’ll definitely be back. Give them a try, you won’t be sorry!!
Thank the Lord above for a place like this!. Just amazing food. Simply put, simple food, simply made, and simply delicious. I had the 3 piece fish dinner with corn on the cob, and mac and cheese. I had 2 pieces of fish rolled in corn meal and one piece in batter to try. Deep fried to perfection, moist, flavorful, crispity crunchy fish. Sweet corn on the cob slathered in melted butter and xtra cheesy mac and cheese. The wife signed off on the collard greens and genuine and the mashed potatoes and gravy were southern to the last bite. Nice picnic tables under nice shade trees to enjoy the nice weather and we finished off the meal with a delightful slice of pound cake with nary a trace of lemon flavor. I washed it all down with a southern swwet tea that you could stand a spoon up in the middle of the cup it had so much sugar! The only way to drink southern sweet tea!!! Tartar sauce and hot sauce available but missing a nice cocktail sauce to round out this meal but well worth the stop and a little bit of a wait in line. But isnt good comfort food worth waiting a bit for? Chicken and Shrimp are also on the menu and I heard many a folk in line raving about the chicken wings. Definately worth the road trip!!!
Awesome southern fried chicken and fish. Collard greens, macaroni and cheese, real sweet tea. The fish is offered in two ways – battered or corn meal. I absolutely loved the corn meal on the fried fish. My Granny fried it that way. Fried fish melts in your mouth. They know what they’re doing in the kitchen at this joint. It ain’t fancy but who cares when the food is awesome! We loved it!
