Fantastic food and friendly, counter style service. They were out of a few menu items when we dined in for a late lunch. One of my new favorite restaurants in Lakeland, you’ve got to try their shredded beef and the plantains.
Love it!. I head over to Elena’s for rice, beans, and plantains at least once a week. I also really like their vacas fritas (fried beef chunks). Everything is really good here, big portions, and good prices. As for the other commenters, I’ve had their chicken and yellow rice many times and always enjoyed it. Must have been an off day or something. And the guy behind the counter is a little gruff, but he is honestly so nice! We got a big takeout order from them once for a huge family, he realized he had forgotten an item and called offering to drive it over to our house, and then gave us a huge discount. Great local restaurant!
I like the chicken and yellow rice but the last time I ordered from there the man behind the counter was very rude and made me feel unease. I will not go back there just because of him..why give them business if he can’t treat customers nicely and with respect?!
Awesome food, as always. I’m sorry to hear other customer complaining about the fishy cod, which by the way, cod, otherwise known in Spanish as bacalao, is meant to be very fishy, so not everyone will like it, it’s an acquired taste, kind of like sushi. As for the yellow rice, don’t know what happened there, I can assure you that the food they make is delicious, best Cuban food in Lakeland, very authentic, made from scratch to add the delicious taste of Cuba to food 🙂 Trust me I was born there, I would know! Plus I cook a lot and love good food, and this is sincerely delicious. Love el lomito empanizado. My favorite! Yum! Props to Elena’s! Terrible. This place sucks. The cod with tomato sauce tasted HORRIBLE. I have never had cod that tasted so fishy and absolutely disgusting. The Chicken/Yellow rice was OLD OLD OLD with dry dark chicken; my kid wouldn’t even it it. It tasted just like Uncle Ben’s 90-second yellow rice from Publix. As far as the rude service others have complained about..it wasn’t the best but certainly was not the worst either. I sure as he!! won’t be back EVER to this place. I would have been better off burning my $25 as most of the food ended up in the trash. Don’t waste your time here.
A weekly eat. Love the chicken and yellow rice with black beans. (add a few squirts of hot sauce). I eat here at least once a week. More it I can. Hi Elena!
