This chain site met expectations. I have eaten at more than half of the Sonny’s locations from the original to those in multiple states. The quality depends on the manager and pitmaster. This site has great pulled pork especially in the late evening when bark and white meat are special surprises. They pulled the pork in rough strands that were juicy and flavored by just enough bark. Good cornbread and slaw but Sonny’s doesn’t have greens so vinegar hot sauce is not in the restaurant. I noticed some great looking ribs and combination plates on adjacent tables. Our waitress was great and received a special tip to end her evening.
Great BBQ Chicken. Maybe it’s a childhood memories and that I live so far away from any Sonny’s, but it’s my first stop when I fly into Lee County and my last meal when I fly out. It’s the best BBQ chicken anywhere. I couldn’t even tell you what the other meats taste like at a sonny’s, I can’t get past the great smoky taste of the pull off the bone chicken. Oh and of course the BBQ bean too. I have had better BBQ in general, but nothing beats the flavor and coincidence of Sonny’s chicken.
