I went Sat evening, ordered steak well done. The waitress asked if it was ok to butterfly the steak to ensure it was cooked thru. I said sure. Brought my steak out, not butterflied- I cut into it and blood ran out all over my plate – disgusting!
Excellent Lunch. While visiting Ft. Myers, Florida last month we visited the University Grill for lunch. Everyone at our table enjoyed what they ordered and I must say the Prime Rib Sandwich was absolutely delicious. We almost didn’t go because of some of the reviews I read which included the prime rib sandwich. I don’t understand why anyone would say anything bad about this sandwich. When we were there the restaurant had a mixed group of people not just senior citizens (aka medicare age). Snowbirds increase the population during the winter months and the economy. I’ll be going back to the University Grill next year when I visit Florida and lookout this senior citizen might stay for 2 months.
Absolutely delicious & accommodating. The best managment, wait staff &, most importantly, food! I can’t help but wonder why all restaurants can’t be as accommodating & thoughtful to their guests. Service is the main key, in my opinion, to the comfort of the guest and University has it in spades! Special thanks to the staff for their treatment of our family’s after funeral service dinner. They put together an incredible spread at very short notice and could not have been nicer. Oh and did I mention the food is great? 🙂 Kudos and an A++++++!
Wow bad.. University Grill is a classic in the area and the parking lot always busy. I haven’t gone in years but I had company that wanted to try it. We were told a 20 minute wait (6:15ish on a Wednesday, pre-season) and it was more like 40. However the full house was a positive sign it would be worth the wait. We went in a quick trot to the table to keep up with the hostess – for us not an issue but since everyone else there seemed to have reached Medicare age, I was surprised she was rushing her guests. The waitress was prompt. We were disappointed no brewed sweet tea, but she offered a sweet raspberry tea – we passed. She was a good waitress, seemed knowledgeable and pleasant. It was extremely loud, so not the place to have a quiet meal certainly though nice dcor. The table was nice but we would have liked them to have removed the extra place setting – then again it was helpful when she used my bread plate to put the olive oil/herb blend in for dipping for all of us. The salads were ok, just. The ceasar was overly dressed – very salty even though no anchovies. Small but adequate and the 5 croutons were nice. The bread was VERY good, it’s a shame another loaf wasn’t offered. We were maybe halfway through the salads, and weren’t dawdling when our entrees arrived. The plate presentation was pretty much non-existent. The Chicken Marsala was okay but not worth the dollars and oddly soft – no knife needed. The Chicken Milanese seemed better though the parsley flakes on it was enough for all 3 plates. The roast turkey dinner, was atrocious. The turkey itself was mushy and I can’t imagine how or why. The overload of gravy was canned as was the cranberry sauce. The garlic mashed potatoes were okay and wasn’t willing to try the dressing. The waitress was quick to remove the offending dish and a manager? brought the requested replacement of crab bisque very quickly. A sprig of parsley or bit of crab on tip would have made it look more appetizing. The manager? stared and waited to make sure the bisque was okay was a little un-nerving. She was not being intimidating and was trying to do the right thing. Perhaps if she’d chatted with my guests while I tasted it I would not have felt pressured to quickly try it and give it a seal of approval. In fact it was very salty and cheesy and might have made a nice dip for the yummy bread, but as a bisque it had changed since I’d last had it there and couldn’t eat it. The waitress offered to put it in a container for me and when I said no she asked if I liked it and I said no. Again she was pleasant and offered a dessert and an apology. She kindly made certain we were not charged for my attempts at a meal. The quality overall was what I’d expect from Denny’s, not an upscale grill. With most entrees around $17-20 we all expected better. We won’t be back but maybe you will have a better experience.
Tuesday. Just back from great meal at Grill. 6 mature adults at early special. Very surprised by the quality. Everyone happy esp the cod special. Wife and I enjoyed the pork chops. Brenda was the best waitress .We all agreed we will return.
I seriously don’t understand how this place has been open so long. Had the grouper with mash potato. Greasy bland nasty. Flea market quality food.
Best service, awesome food. Our family from out of town dined with us at the grill and we had such a great experience. Our server Brenda gave us the VIP treatment . Our family is from Italy and own many restaurants so they are a hard bunch to please. They were very impressed with the food and the service. We had a wonderful time. Thanks to all the staff, we will be back!
