Comparison. The comparison is with La Tapatia here in Leesburg. Onion, cilantro, fresh slices of avocado handmade corn tortillas and quality not quantity. Cheese smoothering, canned refried beans and large quantities which does not mean quality and is not tasty to everyone.I’m sure in there heyday the plan was to offer authentic mexican food . That has since fell by the wayside and turned to just feeding the masses. This is not only evident in the food but the spirit of the place.25 Feb, 2011I have eaten at El Ranchito only one time before and didn’t feel a strong urge to revisit but every place deserves a second chance sometimes. Ordered the chicken enchiladas which were brought out on a plate so hot it would give you 3rd degree burns but the enchiladas were teetering on lukewarm and maybe hot. Microwave? I will admit the white cheese dip and salsa chips are good.

Best Mexican Food I’ve had Since I left California. Really. It’s just that good. It’s real, authentic Mexican food in a setting that reminds me of the amazing hole-in-the-wall places I used to go to in Los Angeles. I went there expecting it to be mediocre. I mean, really- good Mexican food in Leesburg? But, I was more than pleasantly surprised- I was bowled over. Same with my BF, who is from Phoenix, AZ.We know our Mexican food. THIS is Mexican food. The red enchilada sauce was hot without being overdone, and very complex. There were great dry spice notes in front with a subtle sweetness ending with an amazing richness that makes me wonder if there wasn’t just a hint of chocolate used, which is common in Mexican sauces. It makes me want to try their Mole! The chicken and beef have both been stewed to perfection. The Flan was rich, creamy and very flavorful.PS: If you’re going to use Taco Bell as a comparison for good Mexican food, like the guy before me, don’t bother.

Get comfortable…. Cept, don’t do it at the EL! We’ve watched the EL do a VERY modest business over the past 12 years…Service is good, it should be, there’s 8 tables. All Spanish Staff…So, whats not to like? Well, for starters, the beans are horribly overcooked – so is the rice, the beef offered is greasy and bland as are the sauces and salsa. Frankly, I think Taco Bell has spicier food! The folks at EL have gotten comfortable with the slimest of margins and don’t see any point in flexing their talents…Sorry, it ISN’T the best Mexican in Leesburg
