If you are on the 10 freeway travelling from east to west take exit 217 (59) to Hilltop Country Store! Talk about great food and great people. This is a Veteran owned store that prides itself on customer service and making great food. I have yet to be disappointed with anything on their menu. It is indeed a country store with groceries, beer and wine so if you are in need you can get it there as well. I have been back multiple times since discovering this store and I have not been disappointed with anything on the menu. There is a lot to choose from, portions are generous and it is always delicious. If you have room they sell dessert as well. This is a destination location if i ever saw one!
Hilltop Country Store is the most amazing little hidden gem on the outskirts of Leon county. It’s a scenic drive down US highway 90, and very much worth the drive! The staff is awesome and they always have smiles on their faces even when they’re super busy. This cute little country store is a family place, veteran owned, and supports all police officers/EMT/firefighters/and all military. There is so much good food to choose from that you will definitely have to come back to try it all! They slice their deli meats for fresh subs everyday, use locally grown tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and peppers! They also homemake their delicious cakes, cookies, brownies, and cheesecakes. Their Cubans, Philly Cheesesteaks, and chicken salad are dangerously good. They use REAL Cuban pork on a REAL Cuban roll and press it to make the best Cuban sandwich I have ever tasted. They also have fish and shrimp, porkchops, pulled pork sandwiches, burgers, wings, country fried steak, an amazing Rueben sandwich, livers/gizzards, homemade egg salad, tuna salad, potato salad, Mac salad, coleslaw.. I mean they have EVERYTHING!! And it is all so so so good! The best thing about this little place is ALL food is cooked to order, nothing sits under a heat lamp. So your food is always hot and fresh and made just for you! The price is also affordable for the amount of food you get and for the high quality! I highly encourage everyone to take the drive out and see for yourself, I promise you will be back!! 🙂
Simply outstanding!!! What a fabulous find. After missing out on lunch in Tallahassee as a result of them rolling up the sidewalk at 2pm, my wife found this treasure. A short trip off the 10 it is well worth it. The food, the service were spectacular and just what was needed after missing out on several spots along the way. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a good home cooked and hearty meal and some old fashioned customer service.
If you live anywhere in Tallahassee besides Mahan near the Wal-Mart, this place is far. And I mean FAR. Like, My Daughter and I drove so far that we literally left Leon county and passed through another county just to be right back in Leon a few minutes later. With that out the way, DO NOT LET THIS BE THE REASON YOU AVOID HILL TOP!!! The only reason I’m upset is because I waited this long to see what this place was about. They make everything AFTER you order it. That means the food is beyond fresh….as if their kitchen is allergic to heat lamps. My kinda spot! And the prices are ridiculously low for such high quality food! Bought My Big Girl a hamburger with fries while I got a pork chop sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy that you KNOW didn’t come from a box (hate processed potatoes and gravy) and a mixed box of chicken livers and gizzards. Added a 32 oz drink and still paid only $17. Can’t beat that right there with a stick!!! I can’t WAIT to go back so I can update this review.
The Best!. This is easily my favorite place in Tallahassee. It’s a step back in time with wonderful homemade southern food and southern Hospitality. I recommend basically everything, with fried green tomatoes and pulled pork being my favorites. They have specials that change every week (e.g. squash casserole, greens, sweet potato casserole, chili, etc.) and they are all amazing. Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the amazing sweet tea. Finally, there is a simple little outdoor eating area with picnic benches under a cover that I adore. You can’t go wrong at this charming little spot.

Just about 3 miles off I-10, fantastic alternative to fast road food. We split a six inch Italian sub, a large order of fried green tomatoes and a small macaroni salad for $12. Yummy and fresh. They have quite a large menu of hot and cold offerings. Best fried toms if had in quite some time. Many fresh homemade salads and desserts. I recommend stopping.
