Recently ate diner here and it is very cool, little place. Inside is a converted military barracks from the 60s. It’s not fancy but the daily changing chalkboard has all local fresh fish. It isn’t cheap. (~25 entrees) but the food is fantastic. Possibly best seafood meal I have ver had and I have had a lot of them.

Great food and service. I am surprised by the reviews below that doesn’t sound anything like our experiences at Waltz. We have been at least 20 or 30 times over the last several years. We always take friends from out of town and always have great food and service. It is fresh catch seafood from the Gulf so the menu varies and I think people who are visiting are often not familiar with seafood that is not frozen Bone Fish type food. Not that there is anything wrong with Bone Fish but if that is what you are used to and looking for you should go there. If you are familiar with seafood freshly caught and cooked same day with a fixed menu then you will not be disappointed!

Tom Okon. Gently inquired about a displayed beer – bartender disciplined me to go back to my seat and wait for the waitress to show me the drink list. I did, I am directable. Waitress comes and brings me the wrong beer – for you, the whiskey drinkers, it’s like getting vodka when you ordred a single malt. That’s OK, I can handle unexpected drink, even if I just have to pour it out. Main course: ordred grilled shrimp. Assured twice it was fresh catch. Received chlorinated, preservative smelling, likely imported (?vietnam?) product. Worst shrimp I ate since I left HS cafeteria.Worst meal, and for that matter one of the more expensive, avoid at all cost. GO BACK to St Petersburg and enjoy good food, the islands are a lost casue. Waltz is no different.

Disgusting Meal!. Will not go back! Had dinner there early this evening. Place was small and cute. Staff was friendly lacked professional service industry skills. We ordered the $27 special (Cadillac of fish) some relative to the Grouper. Waitress assured us it was the bomb, wonderful – won’t be disappointed! We started off each with the soup, one conch chowder and a fish soup, both very good. Dinner was served, my fish was lightly fried my husbands grilled. I cut into my fish, nice and flakey, put it in my mouth and was instantly taken back! The fish tasted like I had just put ammonia in my mouth. My husband also had the same fish but grilled, his smelled and tasted of ammonia also.Waitress came over to our table to check on us, we told her that the fish tasted/smelled like ammonia. She gave the fish the sniff test and strongly disagreed reassuring us it was fresh and caught today! If the fish were in fact fresh it was handled incorrectly at some point and was definitely spoiled. There was no apology, no trying to fix our complaint, nada nothing! Very, very, very unprofessional servers and obviously bad fish! The coleslaw was good as was the rice and soups, we definitely did not eat the fish for fear of becoming very ill.We will NEVER return and for warn anyone who may be thinking of going to dine at Waltz. Think long and hard about doing so, if your meal is spoiled you’re stuck with it, the waitresses will NOT try to fix your complaint or offer you something else. The total for our meal was $74 + $14 tip = we are out $88 for the worst meal of our lives!BEWARE – BEWARE – BEWARE – BEWARE – BEWARE – BEWARE – BEWARE8/22/2014

Had the worst customer service. They ran out of fish to order for dinner. However, we had brought our fresh catch to be cooked for us as previously done. Refused to cook our fish since it was the weekend though they had nothing to order. NEVER GO BACK!

Good fresh fish.. Zen Key West rustic shack with superb casual, cordial and efficient service. Pricey but that’s what it takes for fresh snapper or the catch du jour. even though it’s in the tourist strip from hell known as John’s Pass, Waltz is tucked behind and slightly away from the frenzy. Wine & beer only with very healthy pours of vino. Water view on patio. Definitely worth the trip.
