First visit in years. Overall food was nothing special. Our server Roberto rushed us through our meal. Will not return.
Wow. GreT food and service. Fir big money veal chop. Small money veal picatta. Great seafood. Buffalo mozzarella very good. Can’t say enough about wine list. House chianti good but also better in bottles if Mobsabto and Barolo and Brunello wines.
A misfire, finally. I’ve been to Antonio’s about about two dozen times to date, and each experience has been first class – until last night. There was nothing horrendously wrong, just an accumulation of small things. Our waiter began the meal by pouring ice water without ice into our glasses. After requesting some ice, that was fixed – but this had never happened at this restaurant before. Our appetizers arrived without incident, but our salads, which we had asked to follow, did not. Instead our entrees hit the table. Our waiter apologized and said he would bring the salads immediately. He also offered to take back the entrees until we were done with our salads, but the idea of him shoving them under a heat lamp didn’t appeal to us. In any case, two of our party canceled their salads and two of us agreed to take them. What bugged me most about this wasn’t the mistake so much as our waiter lying about it, that is, blaming it on the kitchen. Both my son and I have worked in the restaurant industry for more than a few years and know that it’s the waiter’s responsibility to communicate to the kitchen when he or she needs the next course. When our salads arrived, they were soggy, having obviously sat for some time with dressing on them. This confirmed the waiter’s lie, of course, and I sent mine back. Two of our party had ordered the braised short ribs – had in fact had them several times before and loved them. Last night they had clearly not been braised long enough; flavors hadn’t married together but were just sort of laying there. Also, the polenta was an odd mixed of properly cooked polenta and undercooked, semi-crunchy polenta – an old restaurant trick to hide the fact that they had started to run low and hadn’t enough time to fully cook the next batch. To be fair, it was Mother’s Day, and the restaurant was packed. But this is one of my pet peeves about so many restaurants. Instead of controlling the traffic they know they can handle and maintain food quality and service, they take on too much, and everything suffers. Finally, when our waiter delivered the checks, he had removed three of the four salads from them but re-told the lie about the kitchen being responsible, and this left (apologies for the pun) a bad taste in my mouth, and I left an even smaller tip than I had planned to.At this point, I won’t be returning anytime soon but maybe in time. I certainly won’t take a chance on coming on a busy night again.
It’s about time I found a great Italian restaurant! Great food! The red sauce (pommadoro) was phenomenal. Probably the best I’ve had. The bread was fresh and delicious!! It’s this rustic ciabatta…crusty on the outside, soft and meaty on the inside. I’m not sure why it’s $$$…my lasagna was 12.95…it was perfect in everyway. The service was also very good.
Return after several months, food still lousy. Over cook & tasteless chicken / pasta dish & Eggplant Parmesan was undercook & sauce was acidy. Returned both dishes . Will not go back again. This place has gone downhill fast .Save yr money , they’re allot better places to go .21 Oct, 2012Nice place , however the food & service needs to improve ! I took my family for my daughter’s birthday & was sadly disappointed . Brio is a far better alternative for you dollar .
Our special occasion destination. We’ve been eating here for years and even had our wedding reception here in ’07 in their separate room, everything was flawless. Now we come here about once every month or two, definitely for our anniversary.Upstairs dinning has a comfortable, mostly romantic setting, (quiet until the dining room gets full). It’s not formal by any means, but to me it’s nice enough to be worthy of wearing a nice dress shirt and wear one of the good watches, little things that makes for a fun evening.Other guests here look to be quite happy and seem to always enjoy their food and are have a special time. I’ve never seen anyone complain while there, although I suppose a few complaints here might seem like a lot.I usually start with the anti-pasta, which to me is the best. Many items are wood-fire grilled such as the artichoke which exhibit a wonderful smokey flavor and the dish has a wide assortment of cured meats, olives and cheeses…very fresh. My wife always has the Filet steak and rolls her eyes into the back of head in pleasure. I had the stuffed lamb the last time we were there. Tender lamb stuffed with prosciutto, cheese and herbs, wrapped in pancetta and slow fire roasted. Superb. Both rolling eyes back now.Downstairs offers a cute bistro/ deli / wine cellar, with great pizza and sandwiches and a huge selection of cheeses. It’s a great place for lunch and to pick up some wine. They have the nicest staff and management, such as Mr. Callahan, and will make sure everything is right for you if it’s not.I hope you have as good of an experience as we always have.
