We loved it! Crab Trap 1 is the best we’ve had in Palmetto or Bradenton so far. We’ve only been here 2+ months. Everything has been very, very good. This is the type of place to save for company; it’s a safe bet for a great experience. Prices are very reasonable and the quality is better than average.
Good; decent margarita, OK service, crab cake was OK. Bad; very dated (old), spinach salad dressing was mysterious, grouper was questionable, Cole slaw was tough (inedible), shrimp overlooked. Will not return.
AMAZING!. Went on a road trip adventure for lunch today, and stumbled across this place. The outdoor seating with shade and fans made for a gorgeous dining experience and a very romantic lunch on the water. Waiter was fast, friendly and really made us feel taken care of. We started with the calamari and my boyfriend said he’d drive the 45 minutes just for that! Both meals were phenomenal and we shared the key lime pie- it was delicious! Perfect mix of sweet and tart. I’m so glad that we stumbled upon this place. Fantastic date spot!
They jacked up the prices. We were just there about a month and a half ago, went back this week and the bill was jacked up. We had exactly the same thing minus 1 beer and key lime pie, and it was more expensive!! Not sure if we will be going back. A $75.00 lunch with only a sparkling water and a cup of coffee is waaay too high for shrimp and crab cake appetizers. (we didn’t order an entre) They even brought out a much smaller sparkling water and did not bring out any bread for the same price. Shame.
I meet my mother at Crab Trap I every year for my birthday and even though it’s only once a year it is a very special day. We have not been disappointed ever. Love the food, ambiance, and of course the company of my mother. Thankyou for your consistancy of what’s expected on the plates. Knowing what to expect brings us back. Thankyou
Very good. We had the fried seafood patter- scallops shrimp oysters and haddock. Huge portion with great breading. The scallop and shrimp were very large and tasty. They offer a huge variety of sides- most southern style and awesome. Service was great; our waitress was very pleasant and efficient. She checked back frequently and seemed very sincere. Wish we had room for dessert it looked fantastic! a must try while in Tampa bay !!
SEAFOOD! Real, Good, Plenty and Made Right!. For openers, we had the Crab Stuffed Mushrooms and tell you what, there was more crab than mushrooms which was a surprise as most places will fill you up on the mushrooms and only have a tiny piece of crab meant to call it Crab stuffed. Then it was on to the Jumbo Shrimp Platter and it was jumbo without question. We both ordered the same dinner and were really pleased with the way it was prepared. Staying away from the fried, we had the shrimp grilled and the flavor of the grilling was just outstanding. The shrimp were large whether they were the six regular or nine large. These were not your bait house quality/size shrimp .. They were large. The house bread is a dark bread, a sliced loaf and served warm. Goes well with a salad or cole slaw and of course with your dinner be it whatever you decide upon. You have a large and varied selection of sides to go with dinner and you can read them on the website menu pages. I had the baked potato and it was really good, It tasted like a potato, and not a lump of starch wrapped with a potato skin. The potatoes are baked and served with the skin on, very healthy! I also had the Crunchy Applesauce and it was killer! It was crunchy! Made with delicious apples and it was served really cold. I guess I was supposed to eat it with dinner, but I couldnt, it was gone before the main course arrived. We also had the Sweet Potato served with butter and a ramekin of cinnamon to add as your like. The house salad was a good house salad but we didnt go there to have salad! For dessert we had the Key Lime Pie and it was the best dessert to finish a seafood dinner. The other choices were a chocolate dessert and two others, all very good but the Key Lime was the choice. Prices are right for this food and the preparation. This is not Long John Silvers fare, but excellently prepared food, and served with high quality presentation. The Crab Trap 1 Restaurant is very clean, floors are swept and no food debris was to be found. Tables are clean and chairs are comfortable and sturdy. A lot of wood is used inside for the walls, and booth seating. It has a very warm, friendly feel inside and you want to be there. When you see the restaurant from outside, there may be a lot of cars parked in the lot, but it is a large restaurant, much larger than you can see, so dont be fooled by the number of cars, there is plenty of room.Best of all, PRIVATELY OWNED! A mom & pop that has been in this location I know as far back as 1985 when I first went there, and then known as the Sea Hut, as its original name. Dont hesitate to visit, I found it to be even better than my last visit in 1998.
