I grew up in Bradenton eating Gold Star and Turners. I’ve since moved to a town that has no local donuts. We went out this morning and got a box from each joint. Before eating them side by side I’d have recommended Turner’s and therefore lead you astray. Gold Star is hands down the superior donut. The base yeast dough is moist,chewy and soft. Their chocolate glaze is sweet and buttery without being kick-you-in-the-teeth sweet. The raspberry filled was tart and sweet but not over filled, each bite had the right amount of filling. Don’t even bother getting a cake donut elsewhere. (Can you tell I ate too many donuts yet?) However the very best in the line up is their bear claw. Did I mention all of the donuts are the size of your head? Best bang for your buck. Its located in the middle of a strip mall that the county seems to have forgotten but its still family owned and lovely. Take a trip.
The BEST donuts!!. The glazed donuts are just ridiculously good…huge, with the perfect combination of sweetness and chewiness. All the donuts are good, go for a dozen and mix it up. My kids absolutely love them!
Second To Krispy Kreme. Large, huge donuts. Wide variety of flavors as well. But the taste is not at the KK level that are the world renown doughnuts. Good, but leavea a few clicks to go.
Much better than it looks. Gold Star is not an impressive looking place from the outside, or the inside, but they make some impressive donuts. I stopped in this morning. The glazed donuts are large, light, and delicious. I had one, and also had a glazed jelly-filled donut. I have to agree with the other reviews, these were great donuts. The gentleman who helped me was friendly.I look forward to a return visit to try something different.
WORTH THE SNAKE LIKE JAW EXTENSION!. The donuts are huge, they are freaking amazing, they come in awesome varieties, and they are soft, moist and the perfect mixture between fluffy and chewy. Also, remarkably inexpensive. remember to bring cash.

I’ve been getting donuts from this shop sence I was a little girl with my aunt. The taste hasn’t never changed and if it did it’s just getting better. One thing I love is there plain donuts don’t have that after taste like others do. Also it’s even got like this Bice crispy crunch to it!! I will always be a costumer here! The price is great, the owners are nice.. N fresh made donuts.. It’s heaven!
The best donuts ever!. I love this donut shop. It’s cute and cozy. It reminds you of an old fashion shop where you’re always welcome. Looks maybe deceiving! The glazed donuts here are the best I’ve had. It has a good consistency, taste, and yummy! They also have a variety of other donuts as well including old fashion blueberry and strawberry, bear claws, bavarian cream filled donuts, twists, etc. I love everything here! The prices are good too. The owners are very friendly. They treat you like family. Order a dozen and take advantage of the discount to try all they have there.
