Stopped by on my recent trip to South Beach to try their much-ballyhooed Cuban sandwich. I thought it was OK -- pretty bland and nothing to write home…

On our recent girls vacation to Miami, we made it a point to find local eateries versus the trendy tourist spots. We found a true gem when we found Las Olas. In fact, we ate there for lunch, dinner and then breakfast the next day! Cortaditos are a MUST if you go.
When you go to Miami Beach, the one type of food you MUST get is Cuban. Why you ask? Because Miami is home to a ginormous Cuban population, duh! If you cant get good Cuban food here, then you I guess youll just have to go to Cuba.Las Olas Cafe is a great spot to it hit up if you dont want to leave the South Beach area. Its even recommended by Anthony Bordain, so of course we had to go! This place is super chill and laid back. No sit down table service you gotta order at the counter. We ordered a Cuban Sandwich roast pork, ham, pickles and mustard. It was very good, but much to my disappointment not my favorite Cuban sandwich Ive had better. To drink, we got a Jugo de Cana. Thats freshly juiced sugar cane. Obviously it was sweet, but it also had a green taste to it as well.Naturally we had to try a Cuban Coffee. Strong, dark, and sugary.I highly recommend going to Las Olas. It was a bit of a sketch ball-change walk to get there What with the homeless man in a doorway jacking off, but seriously, just turn the other way. The Cuban Coffee alone is worth it. mesohapa.com
Came here with my girlfriend and my brother for lunch. We originally planned to go to Puerto Sagua only to find it was closed due to fire (or so the sign on the door said). Instead, we came here as Plan B. Don’t let the looks fool you. It won’t win you over by the look of the place or the fact it may be warm inside. It will win you over when you actually take that first bite. Be warned though, you may not find a seat inside or outside so be prepared for that.
Delicious. Cuban food at Cuban prices with American portions. Learn Spanish before coming here.
This is the place! Off the beaten path, lunch counter feel gives this place an authentic feel: all walks of life are in here-all drawn to good food. Lots of fresh hot food choices and the media noche had the cheese hot and melted and the bread was not greasy: btw if you read my other Cuban food place review: the difference here is the bread and ingredients are not discernible to being from the USA!:-) 4 out of 5 stars Cuban can driver also confirmed the place is legit!
The Perfect Spot. Cuban Coffee – Cafe Con Leche $2 4 different kinds of Empanadas (Spinach and cheese, Ham and cheese, Beef, Spicy Chicken) $2 Croquettas $0.89 I think these are the prices. Not sure as I never asked for a receipt nor did they provide one. I don’t care really… I crave their Croquettas, Cuban Coffee and Empanadas whenever I’m in Miami. ***Pretty sure I went there twice today. Its still early… I could go again.
Cash only – very inexpensive and quick. Newcomers just make your way to the glass and point at what you want. The place is busy, but the line goes super quick. Didn’t have anything that I didn’t like and the Cuban coffee was amazing. Considering the locale, this place is a fantastic value and a great find!
