OVERALL: I’m not usually a hater, but this was a thoroughly disappointing dining experience only saved from complete disaster by tasty food- – – NOT HONORING RESERVATION TIME: The single worst part of the night. Our reservation was for 8:00 and we weren’t seated until around 8:30PM. This is a huge issue when you have a hungry wife and/or kids and are forced to wait on the sidewalk much longer than the reserved time. As you can imagine, it’s not glamorous to stand on the sidewalk hoping a table opens up because the restaurant is so overly aggressive with their booking. And you WILL be on the sidewalk because Prime Fish’s bar area is almost non-existent. Rest assured, if you arrive at peak time you will be waiting a LONG time even with a reservation and your hungry companions will remind you of it every single minute past the stated reservation time. This happened to many couples tonight.- – – NOT HONORING RESERVATION PREFERENCE: The second worst part of the night. One of this restaurant’s biggest claims to fame is having a romantic ambiance outdoors. We booked our table using OpenTable, which required us to choose an indoor table or outdoor table. Obviously, we chose outdoors given that we wanted that sort of setting. Where we ended up was just the opposite — a table that any employee of this restaurant knows well and must feel bad for any customers that end up there — the one inside and directly in front of the kitchen. Rather than a nice romantic night outside, we were treated to the noise, chaos, and congestion of the kitchen, wait staff, and a much too brightly light table compared to the rest. So don’t assume your reservation preference will get honored, it’s a roll of the dice at this restaurant.- – – KITCHEN SPEED: By this point, I was so pissed off that I kept a record of when everything came out. Annnnnd it was SLOW, adding insult to injury with how we were seated 30 minutes late. Just imagine how your date or family will feel with these kind of wait times. Reservation: 8:00. Seated: 8:28. Server said hello a couple minutes later and then was gone until 8:43; all food was put in at once at that time. First appetizers didn’t arrive until 9:12 (OYSTERS, HOW DOES THIS TAKE 30 MINUTES?!). Main Course: 9:42. So between when our reservation started and when we got our main entree, 1 hr 42 minutes had passed. Insane!!!- – SERVICE: I had a love-hate relationship with our waiter. He was non-existent for the first 15 or so minutes we were at the table, other than an initial hello. Then again, I could see he was busting his tail trying to take care of other tables. He knew the menu very well but I never felt any empathy from him…there was no apology about the restaurant dishonoring the reservation, him being absent for so long at the beginning, or the kitchen stalling out. The most we got out of him was that we were at the back of the kitchen’s list and he was trying to escalate. He came by much more regularly after nearly everyone left when our food came out at 9:42. Ultimately, he didn’t re-escalate any of our issues to management as far as I can tell. In the end, I gave him 20% because I knew the issues were mostly beyond him, but I can’t help feeling swindled.- MANAGEMENT ARROGANCE: I generally never venture into this territory but I was exceptionally frustrated with the upper management of this restaurant. Clearly there are many problems that need to be ironed out here, but the managers walking the floor were all smiles despite the frustrations of the many patrons tonight that had a bad experience. From my vantage point, despite knowing about the issues, they never apologized or even bothered to ask how things were going with any table period, let alone ours. No concessions were ever offered, although I didn’t go fishing for them either.- PRICE POINT: I went in knowing the prices, and normally the food and experience would justify them. But for such a sub-par experience for such a pricey restaurant (over $300 for 2 entrees, 2 appetizers, 2 sides, and a couple drinks), I felt fleeced.+++ FOOD: The only good part of our night at Prime Fish. We ordered Oysters (East and West Coast), Tune Poke, Blacked Chilean Sea Bass. and the King Crab Louis Salad. Everything tasted wonderful and was just what we were expecting for a restaurant of this price point. + MISC: The general manager was kind enough to grab some water for our toddler as we were waiting an extended amount of time for a tableCONCLUSION: If you’re OKAY with potentially waiting 30 minutes or longer past your reservation time on the sidewalk outside of the restaurant, only to end up with a sub-par table that doesn’t align with what you requested, and are OKAY factoring in 1 hr 12 min for appetizers and 1 hr 42 minutes for entrees past the time of your reservation to eat, all in the name of good food and at a steep price point, PRIME FISH is for you! Your date and/or family will totally love that!
Don’t waste your money or your evening!. Decent wait staff and agile bar staff. Terrific chopped salad… The good stops there…. We waited 1 hr and 50 mins for our table. The reservationists had obviously accepted dozens of reservations they knew the couldn’t accommodate. There was a 20 minute wait just to check in! We were told to grab a drink and wait about 20-40 mins for our 7:30 reservation. One darling bearded hipster waiter did bring us bread and water during our interminable wait and refused a tip- he felt so bad for us!During the wait we were crammed into the bar area as waiters tried to get through. Kudos to a sweet bartender who worked her rear off with a smile to accommodate everyone who had to wait so long. When I inquired with the manager, he promptly ignored me.Finally sat down for dinner close to 10 pm (7:30 reservation!) we were told to order quickly so we’d get some food on the table. Good chopped salad arrived in reasonable time. Dinner arrived and hour and a half later: tuna tartare in a puddle of sick-sweet sauce served with a dry cold rice ball and rubbery scallops (highly recommended by our waitress) prepared with an unsightly blob of foie gras. Our friends ordered $45 coconut shrimp and waffles unartfully served with 3 sauces that were never described or explained. We didn’t order dessert as by the time we finally got food the whole evening was ruined beyond what a kiddie dessert could cure. Prime Fish, your ruined our night and that of many other angry patrons. People don’t mind paying, but they expect a great experience in return!!
