A Diamond in a Rough Town. The area is terrible. The town is half car dealerships, and very low income. Many of the businesses on this part of 441 shut down around 4:00 PM, (including this diner) like some old western town before the bad guys ride in to stir up trouble.Since I happen to work in one of those dealerships, I was getting extremely tired of eating Subway, and though I had driven past this place several times, kept driving just because its outside was unimpressive, and its surroundings worse. But as soon as I stepped in I was greeted with a warm and comfortable atmosphere I have long been familiar with. Some old pros serving tables with pictures of athletes from yesteryear framed all across the walls. As a Jersey guy, diners are home away from home, and I had not come across very many that met my standards down here. The food is about as good as any diner up north, with generous portions. The staff is polite and friendly, the seating is comfortable, and they have so far been willing to accommodate my requests for adjustments to their menu items (switching out pasta for potatoes, etc without charging me for it). While the choices in Italian are somewhat limited, I’ve enjoyed this place very much, and continue to visit on a regular basis. If you’ve driven past this place and settled for one of the dozen or so fast food joints in the area, knock it off. Give these folks a try, they are good honest people in a town full of car salesmen. Its definitely worth your time and money to visit for some breakfast or one of the great sandwiches or soups they offer. P.S. If they have the chocolate cake in, YOU MUST GET IT! It’s literally the best piece of cake I’ve ever had in my life. Sorry Didi (my grandma)!
Good Food, Clean Building, Nice Staff. This place surprised me. It’s in a highly dubious area of town, and you can’t tell much from looking at the outside of the building, but the food is good, and the people are professional. They seem to take pride in their work.I went there with a family of six, including a baby and a toddler. The staff was very cheerful and helpful with the problematic seating, and they brought out crayons and coloring books for the kids. The food is like the diner food you get in any Greek diner in New York, but the quality is better, and the portions are generous. I had eggs plus biscuits and gravy. Nicely done. Not the greatest I’ve ever had, but then I’m from Kentucky, so I will always find something wrong with a restaurant’s biscuits and/or gravy. I can’t think of a better breakfast operation in Miami, anywhere near this price. This is practically the only restaurant in the area where I would feel confident about having a decent dining experience. It’s too bad they haven’t opened a few more branches.
