Bistro 821 was quite a pleasant and relaxing dining experience. Prices are almost reasonable, so be prepared if you are on a budget. The atmosphere and the cuisine presented are top-notch, so I expected to pay a tad more for a quality dining experience. Service is fantastic, by the way.My dining partner suggested the quite-tasty escargot for an appetizer. The garlic butter sauce with the tomato bits was just perfect. I thought the tiny croutons were a nice touch.Of course, I chose the Caesar salad, which I tend to favor at most restaurants. The Caesar here was good, and quite a bit more flavorful than I am accustomed. It is a taste treat. Give this one a try if you are a Caesar fan.My entree of choice was the Seafood Risotto. I love seafood, and this dish is certainly a winner. It is shrimp, scallops, clams, and mussels with (and I had to take a picture of the menu here to remember) – Tomato Concasse, Basil Chiffonade and Pecorino Romano Cheese. Fancy ingredients for sure, but certainly a flavor festival.A most excellent wine list awaits you if you are inclined. I had the Kim Crawford, which is an excellent sauvignon blanc from New Zealand. I feel it pairs perfectly with seafood dishes. All in all, dining at Bistro 821 is one restaurant to experience while in Naples.

A Naples institution. Excellent food, wonderful service, and a great summer special – 2 entrees and a bottle of wine for $33. Bistro 821 is entering its 20th year, and other than slightly faded pastel walls, you’d never guess. The food and atmosphere are fresh and vibrant. The waiter was very helpful acquainting us with the menu. The bread arrived first, and we greatly enjoyed the dipping oil. Next, at the waiter’s suggestion, we tried the Earth and Sea Chili Rellenos appetizer. A great suggestion! The chili was stuffed with spices beef and shrimp then coated in a pastry puff shell. The sauce and sour cream drizzled over it really made the dish. Our house salads came next and were ample. The house basaltic tasted great and wasn’t too overpowering. For my main course, I had the beef tenderloin. My wife had the pork piccata. Both came with vegetables and mashed potatoes, which I noticed a lot of the entrees came with. My beef tenderloin was cooked perfectly. Charred outside with a medium, warm inside. Delicious. The green beans and mashed potatoes were average, but the gravy was very flavorful and made the side come to life. My wife enjoyed the pork piccata but found the egg breading odd for the dish. She likened to the breading you’d find on chicken Romano, which is a bit strange with piccata. The service was impeccable throughout the evening, and the prices were fair for the 5th Avenue location. Bistro 821 will be a regular spot for us. 08/10/15
