Wine dining. The Vineyard used to be THE place to eat if you wanted something a bit fancy in the Port Charlotte area. There was the French restaurant down by the old mall, and Captain’s Table in Fisherman’s Village, but The Vineyard was always our choice because it was more wine-driven than those other places, and the menu was more innovative. I remember back to when The Vineyard opened, and it was a breath of fresh air on the local dining scene. The owners were amiable and they spent a lot of time choosing good vintages, which were harder to come by in Charlotte County then. I’m surprised The Vineyard doesn’t have a bigger Web presence, because the guys who ran it were always forward-looking.
