(9/14/2017) It’s hard to find dim sum outside of establish major-city Chinatowns. My family usually goes to the restaurants over by the old Chinatown area at 50 and Mills. This one is close to work and decided to break in some dim sum newbs here. Place is unassuming, not exactly stylish or modern, but it will suffice. The whole place filled with large tables of Chinese families, coworkers, and tourists, a good sign that it’s legit. No carts, but a picture menu and paper dim sum specific menu are helpful. Got the basic faves, although out of Deep-fried Taro Dumplings that day 🙁 Fresh vegetable of the day was Gai Lan, which we got stir-fried with garlic. It was so good we had to order another, was al dente crisp, brilliantly bright jewel green and salty, garlicky. It was all serviceable, flavors like you would expect. They were making things to order, so our dishes came out whenever they were ready, which was great by us, made us pace. Should’ve known better than to let our resident bottomless pit order the food. We ended up with twice as many dishes as we could possibly eat. Still was $20 per person with tax and tip already included. Prices were reasonable. Service is like a straight up authentic Chinese restaurant, efficient and brusque.Faves of the table were the Har Gow (Steamed Shrimp Dumplings), skins were translucent, slightly chewy, plump pink shrimp, the Steamed Rice Noodles (Cheung Fun) with shrimp and roast pork, nicely springy and slippery, with that addictive sweet/salty soy sauce, and Pan-fried Chive Dumplings, crisp, tender, chock full of fragrant chives. Location is good for us, likely we’ll be back, we haven’t tried everything on the list yet.
