Very nice. We went with friends, who had only been there for lunch. We found the dinner prices a bit higher than lunch, but not unexpected. We asked about beers and the server brought the entire selection and knew all the choices. The beers were just like they were described. We all ordered the French Onion Soup, which they make completely from scratch. That includes their own bread and cheese. It was wonderful, about the best I have had. The Mussells appetizer was huge and only $13. The Endive Salad was nicely presented and the person who had it, liked it. My wife had the Chicken Marsala and was very happy with her choice. I had the pork chop special, with a mustard glaze/gravy, mashed potatoes, and a small bean stew/cassolette. It was very good. We had three desserts, all wonderful, a Key Lime Tart, a Fruit Tarte and a Mango Guava Cheesecake. Service was top notch.
Bad. I went to this restaurant for a spinach quiche take out. They said they were out of that itemand recommended the spinach pochette. This was garbage and a total waste of money. The puff pastry was so over cooked that it was like a dry crouton. and the spinach filling seemed like it was a box of frozen spinach that was dried out in the microwave. It had sand or grit in it which was very unappetizing. It was like spinach leather inside a dry crouton. There was a side salad that was average to below average. The entire meal was very disappointing.
Good food. Rendez-vous is at its best when the owner is there. The food is authentically French. I often order two appetizers because the main portions are too big and I like to have a small dessert at the end. The moules a la creme are delicious and the escargots, as well. A small salad is still quite big. The charcuterie are excellent. I wish they had a menu fixe with four courses for about $15-$20 – like a cup of soup, a small appetizer, a small main dish and a dessert. It is a good restaurant to sit with someone and talk over good food – there are no loud TV screens to make you scream at each other. AND there is no problem parking, no hassle with valets. I recommend it.
Improvements to Service Needed. Food is OK and even good. But service is so poor it overshadows and ruins the meal. The waitress rushed us, was loud and condescending; She would fit right in at a truckstop or diner. Our entire meal was brought at once- the salad, the appetizer, the wine and the main course?! Just dropped onto the table. For $10 per glass of wine i would like to taste it with the appetizer or even the salad for a hot minute rather than drink it along with my meal as if it were a coke. We had to struggle and arrange all the plates to eat our food. During the meal a male employee appeared from the back to greet some customers and was so loud and inappropriate that we had to cease our conversation until it ended because we couldn’t speak over his nonsensical, stupid, exchange. The customers he shouted at had perplexed/embarrassed looks on their faces. They restrict the choice of seating when many tables remained empty throughout our meal- including all those outside- perfect weather- Why? The wine pours are sloppy: We ordered two glasses, one served 1/2 full, the other only a 1/3 full; if i can see it immediately they should too. We asked for a small salad, they charged for a large….then tacked on a sharing charge without advising… tell us.. You butted into our conversations for everything else. Then, after rushing through dinner we couldn’t get the check…’right away’ seemed to mean after the waitress stopped at each table and loudly intruded on each conversation for no service related reason– This is not fine dining or professional service and can only be described as unskilled. She is not a guest and needs instruction on her role, on boundaries and on how to offer service. The food however, was ok.. even decent, with the music a nice touch. But the dining experience is so poor it overshadows all. This place needs major improvement to the wait staff to improve the overall experience. They are bringing down the place.
Great Crepes. Friday nite was not crowded and it allowed for conversation with the staff about the restaurant. My friend provided great background dinner music on his keyboard and accordion (Fri & Sat). The soups and the crepes were excellent. The scallops au gratin and the escargot were just ok. The dessert was worth waiting for and we were told the owner/chef bakes them daily in the wee hours of the morning. The decor could use a little spruce up but everything was clean and the staff was great. Def a repeat restaurant!
I tried this hidden gem when I was alone for lunch, loved the roast beef aus jus, went back for dinner – had the beef bourguignon – loved it! Definitely going back!
What a GEM!!. I previously had breakfast here and had a poor experience so you can imagine my surprise at what an EXCELLENT dinner experience we had last night. From the food to the service, everything was right on!! We will definitely return.
