(4/21/2017) Came in for dinner after a community function at the nearby Amerasian Center. We were the only ones dining in at the time, looked like a few take-out customers were milling around waiting for their orders. We had missed the time for Cantonese dim sum and were in the mood for some good tongue numbing ma la. Started with the Spicy Beef Tripe appetizer. Nice dish of bright white springy, chewy, tender omasum (leaf tripe). Dish was slightly warmed and dressed with white vinegar and dried red pepper chile flakes, very nice way to start a meal, zippy and light. Fish filets in chile oil was a large tureen of liquid with tilapia or swai filet pieces with a pile of al dente mung bean sprouts, slivered scallions. Definitely zingy and numbing especially if you accidentally bite down on one of those infamous Sichuan peppercorns, also plenty (maybe a few too many star anise pods). I feel like this dish would have benefited from the use of bowls and spoons (which we had to ask for) rather than the plates and chopsticks we were provided. Not sure if was intended as soup or not, but that’s the way we took it, be careful upon inhalation though, treacherous! The perfect spoonful was some doused rice, piece of tender fish and pile of crisp bean sprouts. The Ma Po Tofu was a large shallow dish of silken tofu cubes with browned ground beef in a dark, salty, slightly sweet, cornstarch-thickened sauce. This was also plenty spicy but tempered by the tofu. Plenty of food for four people, prices were very reasonable. Service is kind of like you’d expect from a Chinese restaurant, like having your cranky aunt serve you. If you’re looking for obsequious customer service, this is not your place, if you’re looking for some pretty good food after doing some major shopping at the 1st Oriental, by all means, come by.
This is an excellent DimSum place. Loved everything they served. Prices are very reasonable. We should have known it is good, as soon as we stepped in we saw it was occupied with Chinese. Love it
Very good dim sum. Tried 9 dishes with my parents (who are from Hong Kong). The dishes were authentic and pretty good. Sticky rice and rice rolls were excellent. Shui Mai and taro cake were passable. Best dim sum in florida – which isn’t saying too much because Florida non upscale food is pretty terrible overall except for the odd 4rivers.
