Just OK. Went there once a couple of years ago, the food was just average, not horrible, but not wow either. In addition, they were out of plastic ware and napkins so one of the employees had to run down to the BP to buy some. Lupton’s is better.
Best in Tampa. I felt that I had to create this review because of the negative reviews that I have seen on this site. In no way do the negative review reflect what I believe is an accurate review. Below I will describe what BJ’s is and is NOT.BJ’s Is: A Hole In The WallAuthentic Alabama Barbeque (3 Men from Bama were in the house and said this place was better then Bar B Q in Bama) The Best Bar B Q in TampaNot to PriceyRibs-Chicken-Pork-Sausage-Collard Greens-Mac n Cheese-etcBJ’s Is NOT: Fine diningFast Food ChainFood you are looking for a smile (even though people were friendly)Do yourself a favor and give them a try. If you do not like this type of Bar B Q then you just don’t like true blue, southern, Alabama style Bar B Que. I personally hate Carolina Bar B Q and you would never here me say anything good about it. BJ’s is Alabama brought to you in Tampa.
Chewy. My husband & I ate here tonight, and we ordered to go (which seemed to be the common thing to do; we had many people order like we did and stand to the side to wait for their order). Its a hole in the wall type place, but I’m sure thats not what they’re known for.So we ordered a slab of ribs, macaroni & cheese, & the green beans. The meat was very tough, and chewy, and difficult to get off the bone. We’re used to pork ribs, and the meat not being tough, and the meat falling off the bone. My husband thinks they were beef ribs bc they were so tough. We’re not 100% sure if they’re pork ribs, but compared to what we have had in the past, we weren’t impressed. The BBQ sauce was mediocre at best (not terrible, but not the best I’ve ever had). I did enjoy the macaroni & cheese, but the green beans were nothing to write home about. The food smelled really good, but the texture of the meat is what got us (it really was just too chewy and tough). We’d still like to try some of the other cuts of meat. We’ll add to the review after we’ve tried the others.
Thumbs down. I didn’t like this place at all….service was subpar (the old lady working the counter was rude) and the place was pretty rundown. I don’t mind a hole in the wall atmosphere, but the place was dirty. Food was just ok.
Not understanding the hype. The sauce tasted like catsup and overall it wasn’t anything special. We were disappointed.
It is the very stereotype of an urban restaurant. It is not the most elegant venue and according to the many marks on the menu the prices change frequenly as well as the sides which are available…Despite all of the above they have the best ribs I have tasted since my favorite whole in the wall in Arcadia, Florida
Hefty Plates!!!. We had read some good reviews plus all the talk at my husbands work… finally tried…. not dissapointed at all…. even though through reviews we knew they did’nt take cash (have ATM) we forgot… the lady in the kitchen took fee off the total since it was our 1st time… (i put it back in tip jar anyways for being so considerate) Everything was excellent…sausage A+ ribs A+ chicken A ( Shredded Pork and Beef A+) Between 2 plates one 4 meat and one 2 meat we both have lunch for tomorrow. We’ll be repeaters!
