  Give it a Try. As many times as you drive by the Historic Tahatian Inn, you probably would never think the restaurant there inside. Many local people know about their outstanding breakfast on Sunday, but try it for dinner some time. Prices are not cheap, but food is always very good. Serivce is always outstanding and bartender (Susan) is hysterical and does a great job in making everyone feel comfortable as there are many people from out of town that are staying at the hotel. They do also have an outdoor pool bar with entertainment on the weekends which is something you wouldn’t expect to find on Dale Mabry Hwy…..Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.

  I WISH I COULD WRITE A REVIEW…. I wanted to try this restaurant because I saw the reviews in Creative Loafing and The Tampa Bay Times, HOWEVER, this is what happened…We went to Kon Tiki in the Tahitian Inn around 7:30 p.m. during the week. I think it was on a Wednesday night, so I want to emphasize it was not on the weekend, when one would expect to wait.So, here’s the scenario: slow week night-3 tables being serviced; a couple inside, a couple outside, us, and 2 people, at the bar. We walked in and we were seated right away. Our server came to take our drink order in a timely manner, but after that everything went SOUTH. Our server was training another server, which is all good, but it doesn’t explain the lack of customer service when there is a manager, a bartender, another server rolling silver at a back table, our TWO servers, and another server outside. Why would it take over 8 to 10 minutes to get a mixed drink and an unsweetened iced tea, let alone, order appetizers and dinner??? SERIOUSLY, I am NOT a negative person and the reason I started writing about food is because I have a PASSION for GOOD food, interesting people, and great restaurants. I wanted to share my opinions on this forum so you, the reader, would be able to have some insight on restaurants that you may wish to visit… That being said, the service was so HORRIBLE we walked out. I adamantly refuse to go back to Kon Tiki. In my humble opinion, I would not waste my time or money in an establishment where the service is so bad, I actually walked out of the restaurant because it was a matter of principals at that point. On a POSiTIVE note, after we left Kon Tiki, we went to The Bungalow on West Kennedy Blvd., sat at the bar and had great service, great drinks, and fabulous appetizers.   Wonderful Experience. We went to Kon Tiki for my birthday, and it was a great experience. Right from the beginning the server recommended some amazing drinks that I had never tasted before. We had the Short Rib Nachos and the Tuna Tar Tar for starters and they were wonderful. We then ordered the Chili dusted scallops and the Tuna Poki Tacos for dinner with a side of Sweet Potato fries (recommended). The meal was incredible, down to every last bite. The service was wonderful, but hats off to the chef. The flavor combinations made our palates dance! We will come here again and would definitely recommend this to everyone.
