Good food. We stopped in for lunch this week, and decided to try the pasta. We’ve previously had the pizza to go and liked it very much, rating it 4.5 stars. This review is about the rest of the menu. Hubs ordered spaghetti with meat sauce, I wanted to sample a few things, so opted for the kid’s menu. I settled on spaghetti with meatball, and baked ziti. Garlicky bread with tomato sauce and side salads rounded out our order (I had to pay extra for my salad, it’s included on the kid’s menu). We added an order of garlic knots midway through, as I was reading rave reviews about them. The side salads were iceberg, with tomato and black olives. Not much flavor there, but it was crisp and fresh. The house bread was crusty and garlicky, but a bit dry. The tomato sauce was not well seasoned, as the owner here saves the seasoning for his meat sauce. Opt for the garlic knots, even though you’ll have to pay extra. They’re light, airy and pillowy, covered with garlic oil then dusted with parm. Divine. I’m pretty sure I moaned. Our entrees were a mixed bag. The pasta wasn’t overcooked, but we each had a puddle of water in our bowls. A big puddle. this seems to be a consistent problem here, perhaps the owner should consider letting the noodles drain for a moment before plating them. Moving on, the meat sauce was good. Not exceptional, but good. I’d eat it again, for sure. The meatball (covered with meat sauce) was delicious, meltingly tender, fine, moist and everything a meatball should be. It was nicely seasoned, too. The ziti, baked with the house tomato sauce, was a disappointment. It lacked flavor, the fault of the tomato sauce. It would benefit from being baked in the meat sauce. If you want the best of what we had, opt for the appetizer menu, ordering Garlic Knots and Meatballs. Our server, Tess, was friendly, quick and very helpful to us as first-time dine-in customers. It’s a family-run, neighborhood place, and that’s the vibe it brings. The dining room was clean with comfortable table seating. We’ll return to try the antipasto salad and some of the cream sauces. We hope that since the pasta is normally tossed with cream sauce, excess water won’t be an issue. Overall, given the excellent pizza, garlic knots and meatballs, I’d recommend it. Just ask to have your pasta well drained.
Have eaten at this establishment many many years ago and protested since due to bad service but decided to roll the dice as we remembered the product to be very authentic and very good. If you like foldable large slices of New York style pizza then Amichis is the oven for you. Very hot, very fresh ingredients. Sweet italian sausage from flavor town and the cheese actually has flavor instead of a gooey texture with no taste to it. I didn’t get the crust coma fr the dough as some pizza doughs leave you feeling heavy and lazy and sleepy. Lol. This was doughy on the bottom an crispity crusty on the edges. You can tilt a slice and not have a tablespoon of grease run off your slice. Very well prepped and and just a great Italian experience. I’m glad that we decided to forgive and forget and plan on returning again soon. One thing. The place is small and they have all ovens running on all cylinders. It’s very hot in the restaurant and it feels as if the a/c is non existent. It’s better to take your meal on the road. It’s time for a move to a bigger place and higher ceilings to give the oven heat a place to go. All in all a good dining experience. Manga!!
Pizza good, pasta .. Eh?. Been here many times for pizza. Always good with crispy firm crust. Most pasta dishes have good taste. Some better than others. Red sauce pastas are favorites. Better than the carbonara and piccata dishes. However, their pasta is never drained enough, which causes soup-iness on plate .. Not appetizing in appearance. Non red sauces are more olive oil than anything else. Quality of olive oil is questionable. Garlic knots are outstanding, but must ask for them over regular bread. Also, must ask for Parmesan .. Servers don’t ask. As for the watery pasta presentation .. See the pictures posted for proof. If owners read this feedback, correcting the little things can make a big difference.
Good Pizza. Fresh hand tossed pizza. Who needs Pappa Johns or marco’s? Great to have good Italian this close. Will be going back. My son enjoyed watching the guys toss the pizza dough.
One of my favorite restaurants!. I’m so glad I came across this place. It’s my go-to restaurant for italian. The food is home made with fresh ingredients, and my family has never been disappointed in the quality. We even get take out from there when I have out of town guests. I recommend the calzone, stromboli, manicotti or pizza. The desserts are awesome too!
Wonderful!. We have been eating at Amici Pizza for 10 years now. They have THE best pizza around. Their entrees are also very good. The staff is always friendly, and the restaurant is always clean. We go through withdrawals every summer when they go on vacation for a week or so! I highly recommend this place!
Been eating there for years. Family run and done right. Pizza rivals Original Rays in Greenwich Village.
