Delivery. I am now working close to downtown and that is giving me easier access to a lot of restaurants that were too far way to frequent in the amount of time I have allotted for lunch, so I am having a blast (have all these sandwiches made my butt look big?)! Lunch today was delivered from the Cottage Cafe, hence I thought it would be smart to place the review on their page, and it was very good. I had the Smoked Turkey and Swiss which came with lettuce, tomatoes, and sprouts, all of which were fresh. The turkey had a lot of smoke on it which I really liked (hickory I think, I do not like mesquite) and there was pretty much the perfect amount of mayo on the bread. The bread itself was soft and a little doughy, very much like home baked would be, but I do not think it is. I really enjoyed the sandwich and would like to go back and sit outside for a spell and be able to report to you all about the restaurant itself. Give it a try if you are downtown at lunch time……its not open any other time nor weekends.Oh yeah…sorry no pictures, I was hungry!

Lovely Hidden Gem!. I’ve been to the Cafe across from the library on Gregory St a number of times, but tucked behind the Victorian Bed & Breakfast, I could see how you could miss it. The cottage has a fun, friendly staff inside a quaint stable-house. Their wraps & sandwiches are very fresh and all home-made, so its worth it paying an extra dollar over the chains. Plus they have UBER-DELICIOUS desserts. Seriously, do not leave without a to-go, regardless how full you feel. You will be SO happy you did. My personal favorites are the bread pudding & gooey butter cake. Barbee makes everything, so they all seasonal flavors. Their menu is expanding, so I am planning another visit soon. ohfoodbaby.blogspot.com

Homemade Food and Pensacola Charm. Dining Experience: Cottage Cafe, located on the grounds of the Pensacola Bed and Breakfast across the West Florida Public Library, has an unassuming, grandma’s kitchen kind of charm both in the interior and exterior seating areas. The staff was friendly and welcoming, did not rush my order, and took particular interest in my daughter, which made us feel like old friends visiting after a hiatus.Food: The Curry Chicken Salad Sandwich I ordered was delicious. There were chunks of chicken, sliced red grapes, celery, and walnuts mixed in a curry sauce loaded on a soft croissant with tomato slices, sprouts, and lettuce on the side. The sandwich comes with a bag of chips for a total of $7, but I opted for a fruit cup instead, which ran me at $8. The fruit cup was an assortment of fresh fruit, not at all prepackaged, but was disappointingly small for an additional $1. I had the lemon bread pudding for dessert. The bread pudding itself was more solid in texture than I was accustomed to, but nicely flavored with the sweet and slightly tart lemon cream and blackberry/blueberry syrup drizzle. At $4.25 a square, however, I found it slightly pricey for a homespun dessert.Overall Impression: The Cottage Cafe’s proximity to the library makes it a convenient lunch destination that I will be visiting again. Although I spent more for lunch here than I normally would at sandwich chain shops, the homemade character and ingredient detail of the meal made it a worthwhile stop. With their delivery to downtown, I may be tempted to have another taste of the Cottage sooner than I plan!
