Very ecletic place, young ladies were very nice and helpful. Food came out hot and fresh. Meatball sub is very good, flavorfill and filling. Only thing missing is fresh mozzarella. For 9.50 cheese would be perfect add. Update- meatball sub again no mozzrella and little to no sauce. Very dry and disappointed, especially. When their menu says ut comes with cheeses and meatballs and sauce.
Finally stopped in at East Hill Market, have been wanting to try them since they opened and for one reason or another we just have never been. Had gone to the Palafox Farmer’s Market and worked up an appetite looking at all the food there and hightailed it over to Ninth Ave. afterwords. We found the inside to be quaint, and part grocery store and part retail space for artsy items (see pictures). The ordering process is not completely obvious but the staff was very helpful and we got our food ordered with little difficulty. There are three places you can choose to eat, one in the market, one behind the kitchen, and then you can sit outside and eat, if the weather suits you. We chose the quiet area behind the kitchen and that is where the first two inside pictures I uploaded were taken. It has a cute almost coffee shop feel to it, and it was out of the way of the customers milling about the market part of the business. We both ordered soup, and found both to be fair, and in need of salt, but something more, I expected my sausage soup to have been more hardy, but was similar to a watery minestrone. We split the Fish Tacos and the Avocado Sandwich and it was a bunch of food. The avocado sandwich was the favorite of us both, and it must have had one whole avocado on it, and a nice olivada spread that was like a tapenade that added a lot to what can be a ho hum sandwich. Very solid! The fish tacos were good but very messy!!!! There was way too much extra going on with the black beans, mandarin oranges, pineapple salsa, slices of avocado, and lastly the slaw, and everything just fell out onto my plate. I understand plating, and making a presentation of the dish, but it also has to hold to its intended purpose. You can not eat a taco with you hands that you can not close. The flavors were there though, and after I removed a lot of the debris, I could eat the taco and enjoyed it. They did a great job of not allowing the salsa to get too sweet (I have made it clear before that I do not like sweet on my meat).I will be back, I enjoyed myself and so did my wife. I like the cute concept and want to try a few more items on the menu. If you get the tacos, you will need extra napkins.
Omg, the meatball sub is killer good. One sub feeds two people, making the $9 price a bargain. Real meat freshly made Italian meatballs, it is sooooo good. Half the sandwich and I was stuffed. We also bought sourdough bread and yogurt chicken salad but haven’t tried it yet (saving for dinner tomorrow). Food is really hot fresh and good. Also, they have really good selection of wine, flavored teas, produce and things you cannot find in other stores.
The Avocado sandwich with jalapeos is excellent!! The soups are good as well. There is a small market that carries local honey and Kittrell’s soaps… It’s worth a stop
Have eaten here quite a few times and have always loved the food, Tony’s meatballs are excellent, the avocado sandwich is perfect. This is a family owned restaurant that takes pride in the quality of their food, it may get busy during lunch time, but definitely worth it. I hope to see it grow to allow more seating.
Can’t quite understand the other reviews here…. East Hill Market is one of the most welcoming, enjoyable spots in Pensacola to grab a bite to eat. Not only is the food amazing (you have to try their staples: the avocado sandwich and the meatball sandwich) but the people who run it are as well. It’s a family joint, and it feels that way – consistent, cheerful, and helpful service that you expect from a local spot. Not to mention the food always comes out fast and hot. It’s one of the best kept secrets in Pensacola. I can’t help but think that these reviews are made about some other place, maybe City Grocery that has a similar feel and is known for rushed service. Just a thought…keep that in mind and don’t let other’s deter you from trying it out!
OK food, TERRIBLE service. All 3 times I have been there with in the past 3 years it has been awful. The first time my sandwich (SANDWICH) took 40 minutes to get to me, on lunch break, the lady that ordered after me and spent 30 minutes talking to the owner got her exact same sandwich within the 10 minutes after she ordered it. It was not bust, 2 other customers. I decided to try it again, came in and the owner was on the phone for at least 10 minutes, I left without ordering. The last time I came in was a few days ago, we were the ONLY people in there. The owner was AGAIN on the phone, we waited for OVER 10 minutes. I will not be coming back..EVER! I really wanted to like this place, but I am sorely disappointed. There are PLENTY of places to eat where the servers actually serve you. I would not even give this place 1 star.
