Love the olive salad!. Hadn’t stepped foot in Four Winds for several years. Growing up, I would feast on the fantastic muffalettas there. This time while shopping, I tried a turkey with the olive salad from my old favorite. Still delicious! Hope I return soon. Also, the pates are superb.
Gyro. Very good. Will have to have another soon!12/28/2015Just went in looking for some Roquefort cheese and got into a discussion with a guy behind the counter that I have to assume is their cheesemonger or buyer (not James), and he was unbelievably knowledgeable about the different cheeses, their tastes, their textures, as well as their places of origin. He was very helpful, so much so that I ended up with a few cheeses that I did not know about, to take home and try, of course this happens at Four Winds, but it is half the fun. If you have been, you know what I mean.
High pressure sales that don’t deliver. James will tell you his gyro is the best in town. He will also tell you his falafel sandwich is the best in town. Both claims are false. The gryo is dried out and the falafel are not fresh. Most recently I had the falafel sandwich, which was cold, and I had the distinct impression that these were simply prepackaged falafel that had been thawed. The tabouleh is fantastic and the hummus is passable (again, very overpriced as anyone who has made hummus at home or purchased it elsewhere can attest); however the falafel was inexcusable, especially given that this sandwich costs $9.75(!). Go to Jordan Valley or Hummus instead for both gyros and falafel. I was also shopping for pita, but all the bread seemed stale upon touch. Make sure you inspect expiration dates at this place. I’ve purchased items and brought them home only to find that they were past their expiration date. Also, note that while FW might be good for very specialized items, if you are searching for something that can be found elsewhere, you are almost certainly able to find that item elsewhere. And who in his right mind stores bottles of Dom Perignon in a non climate controlled case in sunlight?
Pensacola Gem. This little grocery is delicious. They have candy I grew up eating in the middle east, as well as spices and treats that range from asian to caribbean. If you want to do it right, open up a beer while you shop, order a sandwich (the salmon and gyro are delish) and don’t you dare leave without the traditional and spicy turkey salad and at least one type of feta dip. Everything here is amazing and samples run free. This is a great place to splurge!!!
The food is good, the experience of shopping there is tedious and unpleasant. As other reviewers pointed out, you can just say no. However, I’m not sure how many times you would have to say no to these people for them to get the message. Once is definitely not enough! They always overfill your order (which you will definitely pay for at the register) and I have found out of date products in the refrigerator case. I think the owner would have a stroke if you asked for the register receipt. He’s a scammer.
Warning ! HIGH PRESSURE SALES. Pushy pushy pushy. the owner should be in the used car business. the unusual food selection looks wonderful, but there is an employee at every junction trying to sell you. the owner is relentless. I want a single bottle of port..he insisted on binging me an entire case. We bought a few bottle of beer, he insisted we buy the entire stock. We told him we dont have the money buy all that, he wouldnt listen, just kept ringing it up at the register anyway. NO MEANS NO ! We wont be back, he pushed us right out the door forever. The food looks great, but ordering a sandwhich might get you an entire bakery full of them…..
Not Happy!. This place is too high pressure sales. They make wonderful stuffed grape leaves with a cucumber sauce. Its a shame I will not be going back. I went in for a loaf of bread and the owner kept trying to sell me something else. I was in a hurry and just wanted the bread. He got mad and charged me double from what he charged last time. I was warned about this beforehand. They are losing business because of this. I will not be going back.
