Just had an amazing food enthusiast evening with my wife. We were going to go see the Alton Brown (my hero) show at the Saenger in Pensacola, and we decided to try Nom out since we have been wanting to and it was just down the street, and we were really impressed. The atmosphere is nice and the size of the restaurant makes it a quaint dining experience. Our server was great and suggested some different sake choices for us to try, and immediately understood what we were wanting to do, which was treat the menu like a tapas menu and ordering a couple of things at a time, making a night of it. We ended up really happy with the service and the food since everything that we ordered was really good. You can see from the pictures that the two of us ate a lot and tried a lot. The menu is very inventive, original, and appears to change often.Another great place to spend an evening by my experience and did not have any negative things to say. Will be back again soon.
We showed up at Nom one night about 30 minutes before they closed. I know, not the greatest time for the staff, but our server made us feel very welcome and she was extremely friendly. The interior is nicely done in that modern industrial look that’s so popular right now. It is clean and fun, and you feel like you’re eating in a restaurant that should be located in a larger city than Pensacola. The menu selections are varied, with selections for small plates, ramen, and sushi. The food comes out beautifully displayed and the portions are fine. Everything we ordered tasted great and was appropriately prepared.
I’ve always been pleased with the service; however, the one thing I order is overpriced. The Vegan Miso should not be 11 bucks. In any major metropolitan area a comparable dish could be had for almost half what Nom charges. I call price-gouging. Moreover, were it available for even two dollars cheaper, I’d be more willing to buy additional items such as edamame or one of the rolls. That said, the Vegan Miso is delicious and filling, but I just feel like I’m paying for ambiance as opposed to food. This is why I’ve stopped going to Nom. I can’t slam the tastiness. Sometimes the behind-the-bar gossip is a bit awkward, but professionalism aside, it isn’t a bad place.
Yum! Had the Graffiti and Artisan roll, with the tuna rice cake tartar appetizer. Delicious! Been to Japan a few times, and this was comparable to sushi in Japan. We’ll be back! Sayuri Sake was outstanding!
Service was the first problem. After being seated at the sushi bar we waited 20 minutes before we even were served water. They were not very busy, only a few tables and one other couple at the sushi bar. The waitress and hostess talked most the time. We saw several pieces of fish at the bar which were questionable and were not kept in ice and the case was not closed to ensure freshness. So we saw one item on the menu which we thought maybe say, the steamed bun. This was a disappointment as you do not receive an actual steamed bun. You get a small taco with the shell made of steamed bread. The bun sauce which should be made with the pork was room temp and just smeared on the bread. We tried to pay and leave but it took us getting up and starting for the door to get the waitress to notice.
The sushi was really really good! Ramen wasn’t quiet as amazing as Hawaii but still worth trying! I recommend. Also they have Mexican coke!! Hehe
Weak sauce. Been to japan. Was exited to try the pork ramen. It was spaghetti noodles in chicken broth. If you like overpriced non authentic japanese like food made by hipsters then go for it. I won’t be going back. Their pork buns were tasty…$8 for 2 pieces of finger food literally the size of your finger.
