We have been to the Outback on Gregory, (is it there anymore?) This one is noisier, less intimate and on a Friday night would not be my first choice. …

Went for dinner was my birthday starter salad took 15 minutes for the misses and 20 minutes longer for main courses my porterhouse seemed less then 22oz more like 16 and under cooked. I asked for medium and it came out nearly rare
Slipping downhill!. One of our favorite family-friendly eating out places in Pensacola has recently and definitely been slipping downhill. What’s going on there? Is it new management, or some other illness which if not corrected may become serious. It’s a steakhouse, for goodness sake, yet twice in recent weeks a cook just seems unable to control the grill and send out a steak even remotely done to the requested degree red, pink, or brown. Even more annoying, even on busy Friday evenings, the waitstaff and/or kitchen crew seems bent on rushing diners through whatever pleasure they can derive from the entree poorly prepared before the salad course is even half-way consumed. What not too long ago was a solid value for the money has now become a hurry-up-and leave experience without any real taste appeal or value. Whatever has happened over the past six months needs badly to be corrected.
Can’t cook a rare steak, shorts wine serving.. It is a fun place to go, and we have gone there for years, but it is a steak house, and they should be able to cook a steak to order. I know they can’t , and often order fish or chicken to avoid the aggravation. I go there several times a year, but I will visit a real steakhouse, that can cook a rare steak, once a week when we have one in the area. So they have lost a lot of business just on me. I make a point of ordering a rare steak with a cool red center. They serve a medium rare at best. That is better than some of the other steak houses that will give me a medium well! Also, we had to wait and at the bar, the bartender said it was happy hour prices. My wife ordered a pinot grigo white wine, and he brought a small glass of wine to her, and a large to everyone else. When I got his attention, he said her wine, pinot grigo, was not covered by happy hour prices, and that it cost 6.85 instead of 4 dollars. The small size was what they served with regular wine orders. He could have informed her when she ordered, he said it was happy hour, and she thought she was getting that. It sort of started the evening off to a bad start. I should have sent it back. How about Outback Management, do they have any experience with marketing? Wine drinkers tend to drink a lot of wine. I bet that if they had a quality wine that they sold as a house wine, all hours, and under 4 dollars a glass, they would sell at least 10 times the amount of wine as they do now. It is a high profit item, or at least it is if they do it right. Of course they also would have to have cooks that can cook a steak to order.
Blooming onion is good, but I cannot validate spending the money on a mediocre steak. Realistically, their steaks should be around $17, not 25. Next time I’ll spend the extra 5 bucks and walk over to Mcguires.
After being seated and passed over by the waitress multiple times, a party that arrived after us was serviced first. We left and even tried to call in an order three times only to be put on hold. The place was not even busy. If you want better service, go to whataburger just down the street. Dear management: this occurred at 12pm on 1-1-14, so start your year off by making your team accountable.
This used to be a somewhat favorite in a pinch. Now…you’d have to pinch me hard to go there. Went on a Sunday around 1:00pm, plenty of seating and open tables. Server took over 20 minutes to come back and get our order. We had to get our own silverware and it was filthy. We all, party of seven, had to clean our own. Food came about 45 minutes later. Ribs were very dry, shrimp was cold and chewy and burgers not to order. Very unhappy. Big problems going on Down Under. Time for an intervention.
The food was good, but the service was bad. He kept the glasses full but couldn’t remember the drinks. And the steak was fairly dry.
