This is the absolute rudest host I have ever seen. We sat there for an hour and a half and they seated several guests ahead of us because we had a baby. We tried to ask about our place in line and we virtually shut down with condescension from the male host. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE RUDE PEOPLE WHO DON’T CARE ABOUT THEIR PATRONS.
Went for Sunday brunch. I suggest calling ahead and getting on a waiting list. We did and we were #16. After a 18-20 minute drive we were #13. The restaurant was clean and the wait staff were very courteous and knowledgeable of the menu. Had a Bloody Mary and it was good. However, those aren’t really my thing so I can’t really compare it with much. My Brother though enjoys them and he advised these are very good. After ordering the food came out in a reasonable time for the large crowd they had. I ordered a special that allowed me to mix their variety of Benedicts so as to sample two types. Had the Eggs Cochon and Corned Beef Bennie. They were very good. I still think they were slightly bland or lacked something…may have been the base being a biscuit instead of a English muffin….not sure. None the less, they were good. The wife had stuffed French Toast. It was good and they did a great job of not making it overly sweet. The coffee by the way was very good. I recommend that for sure. Sister had the Chicken St. Charles….I thought that was very good. The prices are a little high, but not so that it took away from the experience. Over all my dining experience was good and I will return.
The Ruby Slipper is boisterously average as an eatery. I really like the location, downtown, and the large dining area is fun, welcoming, and loud enough that it adds a casual feel to the ever so slightly upscale brunch restaurant. Unfortunately, the kitchen and staff seemed to be overwhelmed by the large crowd that filled the room. Everything took about 1.5 times longer to happen than it should have. Our quick brunch stop turned into a 2 hour event, and there was only 2 of us. Our server did thank us after the meal for our patience, and we were not in any hurry and were excited to try this place, so we were not upset during our visit; we just happened to notice at the end that it really did drag on. The menu has a lot of really great sounding choices and it was hard narrowing it down to one, but my mind was staid by the thought that I would be back many times. Maybe I just picked wrongly, or the kitchen was having a bad day, but the meal was overwhelmingly average. I picked out the delicious sounding Chicken St. Charles item, as it sounded like a savory twist on chicken and waffles. I think the kitchen being overwhelmed, as previously mentioned, had something to do with it. The batter on the chicken tasted like the fryers were not up to temperature and the oil had cooled down as it was very heavy on the oil and not light and crispy. I would have also liked a bit more flavor on the gravy. It was a bit bland, and it’s really the only flavoring agent in the meal. The poached eggs on top were great and they burst with a runny goodness. The overall size of the portions are humongous and I have a hard time seeing anyone leaving hungry…if they choose to eat all their meal. Fix the slow service, and fix the quality issues with the food and this really could be a great addition to downtown.
Amazing food! It’s our first time here and everything was great. The atmosphere and service was great. Our server was very consistent in ensuring that we had everything. Food came out faster then I imagined it would be concidering the amount of people eating here. I ate the Banana Foster with apple wood bacon and the wife got the normal french toast. All were amazing and fresh off the grills. All the portions are large everything just went well together. We will definitely come back here and next on my list is the Egg Cocohn!
feeling ripped off..very disappointing breakfast today I went for pancakes. I noticed they CHARGE $1.50 EXTRA IF YOU WANT SYRUP WITH YOUR PANCAKES ! I have never seen any other restaurant charge for pancake syrup…ever…and its tiny 1.5 ounce small jar like comes in gift packs…its not ever Real Maple syrup. So I was not happy but i ordered TWO pancakes for $2.50 each….and got charged $9 for their stack of three pancakes. I let the waitress know charging a $1.50 for a tiny jar of syrup was ridiculous. She brought me another….$1.50 more….so…..I had to pay $12… for TWO Pancakes and 3 ounces of very average syrup. Wont be back….do not recommend…
Food is pretty good. Service is so-so. Have been there three times total. Over the weekend I went with two friends. Waited 30 min for a table (not bad for Saturday brunch) but we were placed at a very small table for two. Was told that waiting for an adequately sized table would constitute being put on the wait list again. That the tables around us were spoken for. As we sat and ate with no room for our dishes even the waitress joked about how too small the table was. Many of the tables around us were empty of had 4 people at 6-tops or even 8-tops. The table next to us was a table for 5 that was sat at a table that would be accommodated three and no more. They need to really reevaluate their searing policies. Even if the food was out of this world it would still be uncomfortable to juggle plates and glasses because everything doesn’t fit on the table.
English muffins are a big deal to me, and even though I really like biscuits, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about one with poached eggs. The eggs Blackstone was a hit with a very nice hollandaise, and the biscuits were terrific. It was a good all-around experience, and the bacon was above average.
