I left highly impressed with the roasted lamb empanada!. It is cooked with a sprig of rosemary literally embedded within the dough. It is up to the diner to remove the sprig prior to consumption, releasing the flavors of the herb in the process. I enjoyed this sort of interaction that Del Sur makes the diner have with their appetizer, as it adds a level of engagement that is rare to see at other restaurants. miamiculinarytours.com
Excellent food & Svc….!
Not what I expected. I had eaten twice before at Del Sur and had excellent food and service, so when entertaining out of town guests we took them to Del Sur. The bread and wine were excellent, but those were the highlights of the meal. From then on it was downhill. My linguine dish was very good, but the special of the evening, risotto and prawns, which two people ordered, came with a bed of risotto with two very small prawns, and there was very little to eat. This was $26. My other friend had the scallops which came with risotto. The dish besides the risotto had three medium sized scallops. There was nothing else to the meal. As I paid the bill I mentioned to the server that I was disappointed and she just walked away. We left without ordering dessert and will probably not go back again. Too bad they have let some positive reviews make them forget that customer satisfaction is important in retaining business.
Soo….we came here as soon as it opened and kept coming weekly for the great food and service however, we won’t be coming back.Having tried almost everything on the menu, we had our favorites like the lomito sandwich. So we came in for lunch one day with a group of 15 friends, we raved about this sandwich and how great it was and at 15 bucks not particularly cheap, everyone was going to get that. Much to my surprise, they no longer serve the sandwich during weekends, so I asked why and they stated they wanted to become more high end…ha! I still asked the guys there, that I have known since they opened, if they would make an exception since we have been long time customers. They would not budge. We left angry. It its amazing how a small review from a local publication can change the establishment in such a way that they would let a $300 + take get up and leave.I have lived in the area a long time and I know that this attitude and style will not survive here…nice knowing you guys!
Great neighborhood gem that you must try!. This is a great neighborhood gem that needs to overcome two obstacles for its long term survival, neither one related to the quality of food or service, which were excellent. These obstacles are scarce parking, and to a lesser degree, a name that mistakenly implies that this is primarily a market or a bakery, instead of an excellent, moderately priced bistro serving delicious food and wines. The cheese pancetta and plum empanadas (pastries) are a welcome addition to the traditional beef or chicken Argentine appetizer (also very good) and are indicative of how the owners of Del Sur have tweaked the menu to stand out from the competition. Butternut squash and spinach quiche was also a delicious and healthier version of the traditional version of this dish. Even traditional appetizers like the Argentine sausage (chorizo) was of top quality and stood out from the ones served in many of the other Argentine restaurants in South Florida. The churrasco steak was perfectly charred on the outside and completely tender and juicy inside. Side dishes include freshly sliced potato or sweet potato chips that come out crispy. Short ribs were very tasty and not nearly as fatty as you would normally expect with this dish. Ironically, the desserts (which we didn’t have) looked good, but didn’t particularly stand out as the restaurant’s name would imply. We were served by one of the owners (Alberto) and he and his staff provided very efficient and friendly service. This restaurant has everything going for it in the kitchen and the front, but they really need to think about the parking situation as this small strip mall houses two other restaurants. Perhaps they can all chip in, offer valet parking and rent some parking spaces from nearby businesses, especially at night. If not, all three restaurants may lose valuable customers and it would be a shame for anyone to miss the delicious food at Del Sur for lack of parking.
