Great fish. The Mystic Fish is not cheap, and early dining specials means the restaurant is packed at 5pm. But go later and the service is relaxed. Order fish or seafood; meats are not their forte. Hogfish, grouper, sea bass, scallops, etc. are fantastic. Upgrade from the basic salad to a Caesar, spinach or wedge. My wife and I always prefer the mashed potatoes to the rice, but that may just be our preference. Plates are normal sized, not American huge, so order a first course if you are super hungry. The Fish is the dish.
Yellowtail. Done rare, great flavor and texture
Always Exceeds Expectations. A wonderful dining experience for a special occasion or a leisurely evening out. Service staff is very knowledgable and efficient. Don’t miss the snapper or grouper when on special. A lobster tail is an excellent match with the ribeye or NY strip. Spend the extra money if you like spinach salad. For starters, the crab cake is exquisite and the vegetable plate always offers fresh veggies prepared various ways. It’s a small, intimate establishment which can get somewhat noisy, but the tables are well spaced. If you dine solo or take a date, sit at the bar and enjoy sampling various wines. They have an outstanding wine list.
I’ve been wanting to try Mystic Fish for years and have heard good things from friends that have dined there before. Ordered the field green salad with butternut squash dressing, which was really very good. When it came to the small plates though I was disappointed. They have such an opportunity to make delicious food, but I ended up being quite disappointed. The grilled octopus was beyond charred to the point of burnt on the ends and was just barely on the soft side of tender; a little more and it would have been burnt and chewy. The flavoring could have amazing if they had seriously toned down the seasonings and salt; it was over seasoned and over salted. The crab stuffed artichoke hearts also had amazing potential but fell flat due to using canned /jarred artichoke hearts. Fresh artichoke hearts would have put this dish over top. I also wished for more crab and less of the cream cheese stuffing. It was disappointing to have all this potential but then have most of it fall flat due to some things that could be easily remedied and bring these dishes over the top.
High prices for mediocre food. We almost missed this place in the strip mall. now i wish we had not found it. the server already seemed a bit on edge .. wonder why? they have 3 draft beers on tap .. all ales. i don’t like ale so no draft beer for me. we ordered 2 small plates: a beef filet which was tough and ribs that tasted like they were cooked 2 days ago both with the same lame presentation. i told the server the ribs were bad and she did NOT offer to take them off the check which i consider bad practice. later i realized that this place is a perfect example of doing whatever the customers will tolerate and not much more than that. exactly the kind of place i try to avoid.
Amazing and great value!. This isn’t a place that we would normally go looking at their prices, but my parents convinced us to go for their Early Dinner specials, which were around $12.50 an entree with 2 sides. I ordered the Beef Short Ribs with mashed potatoes and veggies–wow! Service is top notch and the manager makes sure he stops by to check on you. It’s good to know that there are nicer places like this one that younger couples can afford. We will definitely be back 🙂
