I’ve passed this place 100+ times, got a unrelenting hunger for a gyro today so I decided to stop…GAS! Best gyro I’ve ever had, the hummus is good and the fried vegetables…jesuswhatever the green dressing you get with them is, it’s not from this planet, touches parts of my tastebuds I didn’t know existed. Will be back soon and often!

WOW and THANKS to ZEKOS @ BUSCH GARDENS. Three tired and HUNGRY Busch Gardens revelers walked into a lovely bright building [3609 E Busch Boulevard Tampa] just outside the gates of Busch Gardens’ Tampa theme park. (GREAT real estate = location-location-location!) Tampa’s ZEKOS served up a truly welcoming greeting, with helpful friendly service courtesy of Maria G at the register, and Karim detailing the rest. Two of us had been to the 4880 54th Ave N restaurant (unincorporated St Petersburg) at the recommendation of a vendor at Wagon Wheel Flea Market, Pinellas Park. I went that time for the fish. That trip was over a year ago but I still remember that we all had GREAT FISH. THIS time I studied the full ZEKO’s menu. I AM IMPRESSED with the variety of selections. Each of us chose a different dining experience. The food is served on a nice bright platter – instead of the usual foam box. ALL selections were served up quickly and with a genuine commitment to treating us like guests. (How did THAT happen, I wonder?) Truly amazing in a restaurant where one places an order at a counter. Each of us more-than-perfectly happy with what we ordered. I had the special chicken kabob with rice and mediterranean chop chop. WOW~ I’m craving it still. Beth had a platter with red fish and fried shrimp. I had to resist a tremendous temptation to snitch. Joe had a grilled fish platter. Happily, I did get to sample his. Beside the really deliciously fresh menu, the service here is remarkable. Karim (and for that matter, all of the staff} do an excellent job. I thought he had to be either the franchise owner or a family member. This isn’t a franchise – although it would make a great one. Karim obviously feels he’s treated like a family member. His performance indicates his ‘investment’ in this restaurant . Indeed! I can’t remember the last time I wanted to put a much-deserved tip in a counter top tip jar. If you are at Busch Gardens Tampa, go outside the park for a perfect meal pronto. You’ll be glad that you did!

I live near Zekos and my family eats from here every other week. I’ve dined in a couple times also, and have tried most of the menu items, the burger was typical fair and so were the kebabs and chicken sandwiches and the humus. Coming from an Arabic family nothing here was new to me or special, but the Gyros are the exception. It’s all I get and ever will, the Gyro meat is prepared unlike other Gyro shops, it just tastes way more fresh and the sandwich is packed with meat and tomatoes, the Tzatziki sauce is very good too. Grab a Gyro and some fries, there fat and steak like, I like them a lot. The Hush Puppies are also some of the best I had. My family loves the Fried Bass sandwich so I’d reccomend that as well.

Souq Fast Food. To evoke memories of my wanderings through the souqs and streets of Jerusalem and Hebron, ca. 1980, I order the vegetarian falafel filled with ground chick pea hush puppies, pickled vegetables, hot sauce and tzatziki ( I always ask for more tzatziki on the side ) with a chopped salad of cukes, tomatoes, and onions dressed with lemony vinaigrette. Shukran! Doug orders their gyro and he likes it with more veggies in the pita wrap with a side of their wedge fries. All the food is good!
