Delicious!. Went to Cafe Maxx this weekend for the first time. Decided to try it as a part of the Dine Out Lauderdale event. The dine out menu seemed to have many offerings from their usual menu. Initially we were seated in the back room- which was a bit odd given the place wasn’t that busy- but that odd start was quickly improved by the food! We sampled the calamari appetizer and the kobe beef meatballs. The calamari was the better of the two but both were delicious. Another diner at our table had the escargot and said it was delicious but he also voted the calamari the winning appetizer. Next came a salad course- the caesar was great and the other two diners enjoyed the goat cheese salad. For the main course two of us tried the snapper dish- excellent! The third had the banana chip and nut crusted mahi mahi which was also voted to be excellent. Desserts sampled included: bread pudding, apple crisp and key lime pie- which had more of a cheesecake like consistency. We were pretty full by the time desserts came. They were good but at that point fullness limited our enjoyment of them. By the time we left, the place was packed. The noise level was high so if that is a turn off, consider going early. All in all Cafe Maxx delivers excellently prepared quality food. Highly recommend.
Superb dining experience. Took a top client there for dinner last night, and it was a fabulous experience. I had never been before, but did a good deal of research to find a top notch restaurant. It had great reviews. Upon pulling up, I almost did a u-turn. In a rather shabby part of Atlantic Blvd. in a very strange little strip center. But, I poked my head in the door, and saw a beautifully laid out restaurant, with white table clothes and lots of dark woods. My fears were soon laid to rest with the wonderful food and service. Our group shared Sushi/Sashimi Pizza which was great, the mussels…….small and not so great, but the broth was terrific…….oysters, fabulous. For main courses, we had rack of lamb, rib eye, snapper, and grouper. I had the nut crusted-grouper, which was one of the best ever. The snapper is one of the regulars on the ever-changing menu, and it was great as well. I didn’t try the lamb or steak, but my colleagues attested to the fact that both were top-notch.Great service……….very wide variety of dishes on the menu. I understand that only six items are regulars………the rest change almost daily. The place was jammed with locals who all seemed to be return customers (I could overhear the maitre-d (owner) greeting them by name……..all having a great time. So awesome .. Very romantic setting for couples or even a great family dinner. It’s expensive but worth it. Its not as expensive as other steak restaurants like Truelucks , Ruth Chris, morons however it tastes even better! It’s truly a hidden gem and I think everyone should try it!
Excellent food & atmosphere. A must go for special occasions.
Good Food, But VERY Expensive. We went, three couples and all had a fine time. The appetizers were a bit of a mixed bag. The caviar pie is a classic of theirs and was, as always delish as was the tuna pizza. The calamari was tasteless and there were some other, it’s ok around the table of 6. Some meals were better than others. The fish with sweet onion marmalade and madiera sauce was really tasty as were the short ribs. The scallops and the veal chop were middle of the road and there was a wrap that was served with the veal chop that was terrible. They served water all night without asking which is normally great until we got the bill and had a $70 tab for it! The bill before tip was $800 and for 6 people who did not drink a lot, this was a bit over the top for a restaurant in a strip center with little to offer in ambiance.
Still one of the best. This is an institution that has been going strong for decades, and with reason. It had been a few years since my last visit, and I’m sorry I waited so long. Every dish impressed. From appetizers to entrees to dessert, each plate screamed with perfectly melded flavors and inspiring innovation. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out on what is arguably the best restaurant in South Florida.
