Mostly GreatWe heard a lot of good things about this place in the expanding Safety Harbor restaurant scene. Pizzeria Gregario is known for serving as many locally sourced and sustainable ingredients as possible. It is simple and very casual. The servers are friendly and helpful. Value overall is pretty good.We started with the house red wine which was rather innocuous. I wouldnt get that again. We then shared a large chopped salad which was quite good. After that we had the sausage & pepper pizza. That was really great. We got a side of schmoo which is a very tasty dipping sauce to scoop with the pizza crust. It is a great idea, but since the pizza is cooked in a wood oven, much of the crust was burnt and inedible. For dessert we had the strawberry shortcake. The strawberries were good but could have used just a touch of sugar to draw out the juice and flavor some more. Instead of pound cake, it was served on some kind of homemade bread that had been grilled or toasted. Unfortunately, the bread was flat in flavor and needed a bit of salt in the dough.I would return for more salad and pizza and hope for a better dessert.
Don’t miss this gem…. The chef is very passionate about his pizza pie and it’s nothing short of outstanding. Because of the fresh ingredients he uses, the pizza even digests well without feeling heavy. Our favorite pizzas are the meatball (he makes the meatball in house), and the dessert pizza (in house made ganache, in house made caramel (yum!), shaved coconut and a sprinkle of sea salt) = DIVINE!
Locavores, don’t miss this place. My wife and I ate at Pizzeria Gregario last night after a recommendation from a friend and let me tell you, if fresh, local ingredients are important to you, this place shouldn’t be missed. The care they take in making their pizza goes beyond anything we have found in Florida. And you won’t find me bragging on salads very often, but the 2 we had (mushroom and beet) blew us away. And the prices were beyond reasonable. Safety Harbor, your luck to have them and I wish they were in closer (Sarasota).
A true gem!. This place by far seeks to set themselves apart form the rest. They are making everything in house from locally grown and raised products. Buying whole hogs for sausage and meatballs. Making mozzarella fresh daily, using a sourdough starter as opposed to yeast. This place is truly representing the craft of pizza making. I am going to make this place a regular stop!
