Southern So-SoIt was a beautiful early summer evening and we enjoyed sitting outside, looking into the window of a junky neighboring warehouse. The view of moldy air vents and stacked boxes was lovely. Back to the beautiful eveningThere was an OK selection of wines and beersno hard liquor here. The servers were friendly and helpful. Prices were reasonable.Two of us ordered the rotisserie chicken and one ordered the fried chicken. We were told that the fried chicken would take 25 minutes and thats normal if cooked fresh. While waiting we had a bowl of the BLT soup. It was a thin broth filled with bacon bits and garlic and shreds of lettuce. It needed a richer base and was only OK.The fried chicken ended up taking 40 minutes, so we sat for a pretty long time. Southern Fresh is, apparently, known for their fried chicken. I love fried chicken and Ive enjoyed it in many places. This was just nice and nothing really special. The mashed potato side was very good, but the gravy with it was actually unpleasant. The collard greens were quite nice. The rotisserie chicken was a disappointment. The bird in the box from Sams is more flavorful.I had high hopes. Im sorry that we wont hurry back.
My favorite spot in Safety Harbor! Great comfort food in a relaxing atmosphere. We love the simple small menu and order the fried chicken, greens and mashed potatoes. Try to get a seat near the fire pit in the evening. If there are bugs, they have bug spray just ask a server.
