With work can be vegan friendly$16 for tofu & veggies with steamed rice. One friend ordered fried rice which they made without animal products upon request but we were SHOCKED that we had to ask that they use oil and not butter in the fried rice. When I lived in Japan they did NOT use butter on rice. The food quality is good-the vegetables cooked to perfection and fresh. Waitress was annoyed that I wanted water without ice and my friend wanted water with a lemon. Cook was very willing to leave animal products out of our food and was careful to cook our meal away from animal products. Portions seemed kind of skimpy for the price.The surroundings were a pleasant and clean, open and cheerful. There was ample seating.We were seated immediately and beverages were brought promptly but then we had to wait for others to float in to be seated at the community table and then the chef started cooking once all seats were filled. Not sure if they used a lot of oil but my tummy was a bit upset later that evening.
Last night I went on a date to one of my favorite habachi & sushi places, Daruma. I’ve been going there for years. Last night was another satisfying meal. The sushi presentaion was beautiful and we both really liked the Jaguar roll. We sat at the bar and visited with the bartender, John, who remembered us from previous visits and was very attentive. Good service and good food.
