I have eaten at Doc Fords several times. The first time they were still at their old location on Rabbit. That was a bad experience. Since then, all visits to the current restaurant on Tarpon Bay Road have been fine. Why only three stars? On an island filled with good restaurants where excellent fresh seafood abounds, a corporate restaurant like this doesnt stand out. You get good atmosphere, good service, good food. But you can get the same and even better at many other places on Sanibel and Captiva.
The Yucatan shrimp is up there with some of the best shrimp Ive ever had! The bread is great for dipping that wonderful sauce. The Island Style Shrimp & Grits was also so delicious.
I have been to the Sanibel and Captiva locations and both deliver on their promise. The food is good quality at fair prices. The staff is usually very friendly, prompt and professional. The owners support many charities on the islands. Doc Fords is the real deal!
