The experience ruined the food. Not the place to go with a large family. Food is good but it is a bit pricey and very ….very slow. We sat down immediately but didn’t get our drinks for 35 min. It took almost an hour to see a menu. We had kids that didn’t see a meal till the hour and a half mark. The bread we asked for three times took 25 minutes to arrive. Talked to the management and they were unresponsive. (Hint to them: Your not the only Restaurant on the Island) ….We have been coming to the island for over 20 years now and have never been so unhappy about a dining experience.

The food here is great, as is the view. Be prepared for 80’s Golden Girls’ style decor on the inside – it truly is outdated. The service was also very odd, but not bad. It just seemed that the servers and staff were trying too hard to be upscale for somewhere that touts themselves as being casual along with plastic chairs and plastic menus like those you’d find at a fast food restaurant. That being said, please don’t miss this place; the food is fantastic. Hopefully they will either decide to embrace the casual feel that they advertise and change their uniforms to match, or decide that they are an elegant restaurant and remodel the decor. Whatever they do, they MUST keep the chef; the food is fabulous! The female singer was also quite good.

This restaurant even though it is a throwback to the sixties on decor and music the food should also go with it. This meal has to be one of the worst experiences that my family a I have had it the last 5 years. We were not impressed with the menu nor wine list. This restaurant should be refurbished in every way.

Throwback. Cudos to the Traditions web designer – he or she made it look fantastic. This restaurant has a prime beachfront location with fantastic ocean views. Step inside for a spacious, pleasant reception area. The maitre d’ led us to our table by the dance floor, with the 2 person live entertainers across the floor. Decor, music, and ambiance all made me think of the original rat pack movies from the 60’s (without the cigarette smoke). People watching was a blast and much enhanced by the velvety music – this was one of the few times I have eaten an overpriced, poorly executed meal but still left smiling. The wine list was brief but lacked in both value and modern selections. Dinner started with jumbo shrimp cocktail – the shrimp were neither jumbo nor fresh. I went with seared, medium-rare, hazelnut crusted tuna steak with basil espuma, olive-salmoriglio and citrus sauce. It was a sad piece of fish – straight from freezer to grill (think Steak-n-Shake griddle, not backyard BBQ grill). The rubbery texture had to be ripped apart by either fork or knife. Crusting and sauce were both anemic – the saving grace was a copious supply of fresh, sliced ginger that added the only authentic flavor. Au gratin potatoes were adequate. My wife ordered the special – blackened grouper with grilled shrimp and asparagus risotto. The waiter delivered grouper (from the freezer, where all their fish originated) in a thin cream sauce with scallops and plain risotto (no asparagus). She told him this was not what she ordered – he said he was sorry, but the kitchen had changed the special without telling him (although the plate delivered appeared to be the grouper off the regular menu). He did take it back and returned with a piece of grouper off the griddle (still not blacked or flavored with blackening spices) and a single shrimp that had been cooked on the griddle as well. Both required deft use of a good steak knife because the edge of a fork could not penetrate the flesh. Both were quite chewy and lacking in flavor. No asparagus risotto, either…a square of the potatoes au gratin from a large pan rested in their stead. We finished with Cappuccino Truffle Bombe Glace – nicely plated and delicious ice cream with a shell of chocolate (I am guessing their desserts come from GFS).Traditions is a throwback to a groovier time – but, unfortunately, I strongly recommend throwing the meal back as well.

We have been visiting the island for years, but never had a meal at Traditions. Shame on us! Our food exceeded our expectations and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes, to the point of the origination and how the dishes were named. Outstanding menu, warm and romantic environment, outstanding service. Can’t give a higher recommendation!

Another Great Experience!!!. Last season we dined at Traditions numerous times and everything was always wonderful. Some nights the food came out slower than others but it was also at times when the kitchen got slammed all at once. The music and the great drinks by the bar staff kept us entertained until our food arrived. The food never disappointed either! We had a wonderful dining experience prior to Valentine’s Day this year. The Seafood Sampler Appetizer was great and the Warm Spinach Salad is awesome.I had the Black Grouper Special and my date had the Veal Chop Special. Both were amazing with great flavor, cooked to perfection. Dessert was so hard to choose from but the Key Lime Pie and the Lava Cake were the ultimate choices and they were very refreshing. I suggest getting the raspberry sorbet with the Key Lime Pie. Keep up the good work and props to Armand who waited on us. He is truly a great waiter.
