I knew Gigi the original owner of Bit of Boston. She understood the importance of the experience of eating such a New England delicacy like whole belly fried clams. Size matters ! Eating one with a large belly is not pleasant. The smaller the belly the better they fry and the taste is amazing. I have not been back since she sold to the new owners. I went last night and immediately asked the kitchen what size the belly’s were on the clams. They told me small to medium. OK, thats doable. What I received is a platter of large belly clams, with a flavorless breading, clams no where near as fresh as Gigi insisted they be, and a horrible soggy cook. Even I know that the temp on the fryer must be perfect to get items to flash fry perfectly so they do not absorb the oil and get soggy. They could not get that right. This place would be out of business in a week if it opened in New England. Guess I will have to wait till I get back to Connecticut. Its a shame, because I was truly rooting for them.

LAST EVENING WE ORDERED TAKE OUT AS WE USUALLY DO EVERY OTHER FRIDAY OR SATURDAY EVENING. TOTAL COST $44.94. WE ORDERED HADDOCK PLATTER, CLAM AND SCALLOP PLATTER AND SM ORDER CLAM CAKES. MAY I TELL YOU THAT SOMETHING WAS REALLY NOT RIGHT ABOUT ALL EXCEPT THE CLAM FRITTERS. WE ARE NOT COMPLAINERS AS A GENERAL RULE, BUT THIS WAS REALLY TERRIBLE. WE EACH ATE A FEW BITES OF OUR OWN THEN HAD TO TOSS IT ALL OUT . IT DIDN’T BOTHER MY HUSBAND BUT I WAS UP ND DOWN MOST OF THE NIGHT AFTER HAVING EATEN IT. WE R SO UPSET ABOUT THIS AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COME BACK AGAIN (WHICH WE WILL MISS) UNLESS WE HEAR SOMETHING POSITIVE FROM YOU.
