First visit, had the fried grouper sandwich… truly the very best around. Fresh, flakey… not rubbery or fishy at all, which grouper can be sometimes. Small dine-in, informal, good portions, with fast service and attentive staff. Not cheap, in-line with other local restaurants with lesser offerings. Other fresh fish on display in the cases, will certainly try on future visits.

The Freshest Fish Cooked and Served Up by the Friendliest Folks on the Island. First off, let me say that this is not a seafood restaurant with a seafood shop attached. This is a seafood shop; all be it one you can eat in. So if you’re looking to impress your date, friends or coworkers by taking them to a seafood place rich in ambiance and a price tag to match, Big Water Fish is not the place. But if you want absolutely the freshest fish on the island (pick what you want from the counter – we chose pompano), cooked exactly the way you like it, served up by a friendly, low-key guy in Bermuda shorts and apron who serves as both fish monger, cook and waiter, then you’ve come to the right place. So imagine sitting at picnic tables covered with graffiti scribbled by folks from across the US, Bob Marley wafting from the speakers, Chad shucking oysters right before your eyes, then cooking your entree and sides exactly the way you want them, and you’ll know why this place is a hit with both the locals and out-of-towners in the know. A few things to be aware of: If it’s crowded you might wind up sharing picnic tables with other guests, but the place is so casual and friendly, that’s an added plus. It’s BYOB, but there’s a package store next door. And it’s in a strip mall on a side street so it might be hard to find. Every town on Florida’s coast needs a place like Big Water Fish Market.
