Good fill up place. We ate here on Saturday Dec. 13 2014. The restaurant is nicer since the re-model. However, the buffet seems to be not as big. I think the food is about as good as ever. The prices have gone up quite a bit. The buffet is too expensive now I think. There is a point where people will not pay the price and I think they have reached that point. We used to have to stand in line to get in on Sat, but now you are seated right away. That is on a Sat with the snow-birds here. I think they did the right thing in re-modeling but they should absorb the costs over time. (Not all at once at our expense) The front area is very nice now with the bakery. In fact my wife and I are going there for coffee and donuts this morning. I hope they stay open but the prices need to be reduced immediately. We will not do the buffet again at that price. We can go to a nice steak place at the same price. Sorry, but that is the way it is.
Latest experince. Not what it use to be. Most items cut off the buffet table. Dessert has no selection. Plain pan cake. Bathrooms dirty. It seemed like a 3rd world service. I was told it change hands 2 yr’s ago. I will not be back.Richochet-Oct 18-2014
VERY BEST!! Delicious Food and fantastic service!!. My family and I love Der Dutman in Sarasota!! It is wonderful atmoshere, service and Delicious Food for breakfast, lunch or dinner.. I go there at least once a week and look forward to the friendly people who work there and the wonderful food always!
Past experiences have been better than last night.. We have eaten in past years and enjoyed the ample servings and delicious food. However, last night we were disappointed. The food was over cooked, smaller portions and just lacked the home cooked taste. Quality and quantity were less than past experiences. We had the chicken pieces and pot roast with steamed vegetables. The mixed veggies were so over cooked I didn’t eat them. The chicken pieces were extremely small and lacked meat that was usually found, especially for the price. Our friends only had the salad bar. It didn’t have soup and was not worth the price. We understand that food prices have gone up, but the quality should have remained. The bakery area looked delicious, but we did not indulge in the sweets. Sorry about the honest response to our experience.
Well it was definitely worth the trip. I come from middle Pennsylvania where the Mennonite community is very present. The food available on the buffet reminds me of northern fair. Some is better than others, the broached chicken is very tasty. Being in Florida there’s not to many places to get a hardy meal. BtwThe rhubarb and blackberry pie is delicious
Great Pies. Whenever I am in the area I always make it a point to stop in and buy a pie from the bakery. They always have terrific choices; the strawberry/rhubarb and Mince pies are the best. They have a great selection of other baked goods including some sugar-free ones as well. Plus they’re the only store around who sells that delicious popcorn buttery topping.
Not impressed. I suppose I should state at the beginning that part of my disappointment with this restaurant is that I went here expecting an Amish smorgasbord like one can easily find in Lancaster County, PA. I expected this because Der Ducthman’s website touted the idea that this was a real Amish smorgasbord with many choices (though curiously free of photographs of if). What I saw instead when I got there was a tiny buffet with very limited choices (two potato dishes, corn, two vegetables consisting of overcooked brown broccoli and mushy oversteamed carrots, noodles, and a few meats, along with a typical salad bar that had empty cucumber and tomato bins that were never replenished in the hour I was there)…all for $15. Oh, and stale vanilla and chocolate cake. The service from our waiter was fine, he refilled drinks and checked on us frequently; as well, the general store had very interesting products and a friendly, talkative staff willing to answer any questions customers might have. I’d definitely go back to the general store. But the restaurant? No thanks.
