Detwiler’s in Sarasota. Crazy busy place all year round! We always received great service when we shop at Detwiler’s. The fresh seafood is excellent – always fresh and the guy behind the counter suggests ways to cook the different seafood. The deli meats are great and comparable to Boar’s Head but much less expensive. Many of their deli meats are nitrate free. We love their Swiss cheese and butter cheese – always fresh. The people who work there are helpful and polite. Wish they had one in Palm Harbor!29 Sep, 2013Excellent Farmers Market. I love this place. It was the 1st time for us to Detwiler’s Farm Market. There were great prices on vegetables and overall they were fresh. The deli meats and cheeses were very good. They have a nice selection of deli meats without nitrates. I have not found a good Swiss cheese around (even Boar’s Head) but the Swiss cheese they offer had a nice taste and bite to it. It is the closest one I have found that is similar to Wisconsin Swiss cheese. We visited the Detwiler’s in Sarasota and I have heard this is nicer than the one in Venice. Next trip to Venice I will check out and update review.
Excellent ice cream. Primarily a fresh produce and Amish market, Detwiler’s also scoops ice cream, offers frozen yogurt, and mixes shakes and smoothies. Today I had a big scoop of Toasted Coconut ice cream, one of 20 flavors available. It is Big Olaf brand, a local favorite, and was excellent. The ice cream was so cold I feared I would break my plastic spoon. The ice cream server was very pleasant. There is no seating inside but there are places outside to sit and relax and enjoy.I have only visited Detwiler’s on Saturdays and it is always crowded and parking is a mess. They actually do have quite a few parking spots, it is the dance of the cars to negotiate around each other that takes patience.
