So much fun! Good food, great beer & pet friendly (You’ll almost always find Diesel or Peanut there to greet you). The regulars are really entertaining as well. This is definitely where the locals hang out!
Dad built it. My father quit his job at Gulf Oil in Indiana and moved us to Venice. He built The Mug all by himself, (design, wood, nails, concrete) and called it Case’s Drive In, It opened on Feb 9, 1957. He waited on customers, Mom did the cooking, and I washed dishes if I was there. It was a tough life for them since many workers ate lunch there, and it was difficult to close. Amazing that it’s still there, pretty much as it ever was, and I can still touch the wood I remember us nailing up. Since I ate 1000 chili dogs, and many gallons of root beer, I’ll call myself a diner.
Cool Place. Ditto all the positive reviews. Don’t forget that they have the best cheeseburgers in the area. Big, juicy, flavorful. And at $4.50, half the price of an inferior one at one of the high-end places. Good rings and fries, too. It’s just a 1950s-style beer and burger bar. You can eat outside or inside. If you’re expecting steak tartare or pate foie gras, you probably should take your snooty nose somewhere else. (Yeah, that includes you, Foodie. I’ve seen some of your other pretentious reviews.) But if you like to hang out with the local working class and eat good, cheap food, this is a great place.
Cool….I do get it!!. OK so for those of you who judge a restaurant by its restrooms, you need to get a LIFE. The Mug isn’t the ritz by any means, but it IS an old school, drive-in take off diner/hot dog stand/root beer stand/bar, and I believe the theme here is FUN. You have FUN when you go there, the girls have personality and they like to interact with customers on a friendly basis. The point is, the food is good, the beer is cold, and the personality of the place is what makes it. After all, it is a historic landmark, it’s been there since the 50’s, so I don’t know what people expect, but it is a fun, cool place to hang out, and in my opinion, have the BEST burgers in town. I think Mr. I-don’t-get-it needs to go get a Big Buc Burger, use the Shell station’s bathroom, and be happy cuz this place ROCKS, so shutty.
Old school cool. Awesome little hang out spot. Good food at a good price. I guess the bartenders are alright considering they were born in Ohio and Mass… But I you can’t pick where you are from. I’m going back again, see you there.- Blaze
Amazing:). Not only is the food cheap, but VERY good, The staff are kind, and beautiful, and on top of everything. Never heard a bad thing about it in the TEN years I’ve lived here!!!!! The last reviewer woke up on the wrong side of the bed – great place everyone!!!!!!
Love it!!!. Love this place!!! I was hooked on this place the minute I tasted the food. I was even more thrilled to find that every person that works there is very friendly! The place is bright and cheery and very reminiscent of a 1950’s drive thru. Can’t wait to get back there for their amazing hot dogs and homemade root beer!! 10 stars all the way….
