Decent food with some interesting items on the menu. The blue cheese chips sounded intriguing. My triple decker blt was actually quite filling. My husband enjoyed his cheeseburger and the Cole slaw was very good.
A staple for us. My husband and I like going to Gecko’s for it’s casual atmosphere, good service, reasonable prices and consistent food quality. It’s not gourmet food, mind you, but decent pub fare: burgers, nachos, sandwiches and a smattering of dinner entrees. One of the best things on the menu is it’s blackened chicken. You can get it in sandwich form or I get it on top of a spinach salad. It’s very yummy with a pleasant spice kick. One thing we’ve noticed in the past year is that portions are significantly smaller. The chicken sandwich used to be a giant breast (both sides) that spread the width of the plate. Now, it’s half a small breast. (It was great for my husband b/c he’s a bodybuilder and eats massive quantities of food.)Salads and nacho dishes have also shrunk.Yeah, I know prices have gone up all over, but I’d have rather seen their prices go up then the portions shrink. That doesn’t stop us from going….and we also love that Gecko’s uses local produce.
Always a favorite…..it’s our fallback restaurant whenever we can’t decide on where to go……
If only I had chose a better dish . . .. Went with my pal Simon & his lovely wife around 5:30 or so on a Saturday evening. I was rather surprised in how packed the place was at this time. By the time were out the door there was a line outside. I was in disbelief. Anyway, onto my thoughts for the food.My friends both got the French Dip which was cooked nicely. They both opted for Potato Chips which I thought was odd, because I thought they’d be boring Lays Original. They’re dips came out & looked absolutely breathtaking. The cheese was melted beautifully & the au jus as terrific (I bet it’d be a great base for Yorkshire Puddings). They both devoured they’re sandwiches & I must admit I was envious at their delight. I opted for the Shrimp BLT because I have had so much luck in the past with this dish at other establishments (Cheesecake Factory). Well, this was far from the best I’ve had. The Shrimp was basic, the Bacon was too crispy, & the bread was merely toasted white. At $8.99 I guess you get what you pay for, but I thought there’d be a little more satisfaction out of it than what I got. The worst part was that I chose Fries vice the Chips. You can see by my photo that the fries are just ordinary & they were in the way & smothered my sandwich. As I close, I really enjoyed the ambiance Gecko’s provides. A bit gloomy, but it still has a good Sports Bar feel. I’d certainly go back, but I must caution, do not order the Shrimp BLT . . . There are probably 20 better options. I know the French Dip is one.
Smooth operator. Even on a busy Friday night, we were greeted promptly and seated in the quoted amount of time. Wings were great, service was attentive and not pushy, offering opinions when asked and describing items with sizzle words and enthusiasm. We are always pleased with the service and happy with the value.
Great pub food! Try the hot chips!
