We were looking for some local restaurant and stumbled on JRs. At first we decided not to go in due to its exterior look. Well we were wrong in assuming that. Nice staff and awesome food. Looks can be deceiving! We had the blackened catfish and black beans and rice. I could eat this everyday. Next time we’re in Sarasota this will be our first stop.

Friendly staff and A varied Menu. Had an item never found on a menu before. JR’s Basa Fish Reuben. YuMM. Mondays $5 Burger is Big and Juicy. Monday is also $5 Pitchers. Tuesdays $6 Taco Salad and Pitchers. Live music every evening starting at 7pm. Great place to go and there is carry-out and catering available. Gotta Try it.

I liked the food, not as much the place. I stopped in for lunch and had a Pressed Cuban Sandwich. I liked the sandwich. Ratings like best in Sarasota are always subjective and I would not necessarily agree in this instance but that may be more me not knowing what the best Cuban sandwich should taste like. My server and JR were both nice. The place was busy when I arrived at 1:00 but there was no noticeable wait for the food. As for the place, it has character. The walls and ceiling are home to old stuff. I saw no theme but it was interesting just looking around. It did give the place an unclean appearance. So did the floor. So did the building. I have to assume the parts that need to be clean are, and the other parts just the ambiance. This is definitely a locals place. There have entertainment at night and more info can be found on their website. J.Rs Old Packinghouse Caf is located just south of the Detwilers Farm Market.
Friendly and fun in Sarasota, Florida. We read reviews and decided to stop for lunch. We had worthy food, a super waitress and lots to look at.
Great Wing Alert!. This place is great! JR and the crew are really nice folks. The place looks like a joint from the outside but the bar area is really small and most of the place is dedicated to eating. The quesidillas are great! Some of the best burgers you will find , and my favorite, the Buffalo wings. I always ask for them Well Done and I have never been disapointed!
