Kona Grill is a nice place with nice food. I find Season 52 better than Kona Grill. Not that I mean Kona Grill is not good. It’s nice.We ordered BBQ chicken flat-bread, the best I had before trying Season 52’s flat-bread, Sweet-Chili Glazed Salmon and Miso-Sak Sea Bass. The shrimp and pork fried rice was very nice which came with both Salmon and Sea-Bass. Everything was nice and tasty but I can’t stop myself from comparing Kona to Season 52, reason being I tried Kona first and after that Season 52 completely overshadowed my good experience with Kona Grill. In short Kona Grill is a nice place to try and I would definitely like to visit this place again and again.
Spicy edamame was good, but had more lime in the flavor than I care for. HOT! California and Shrimp/Lobster Rolls were both superb. Finished the evening off with Snickers Pie. You’d be a fool if you didn’t take my lead in ordering it. Ambience was really good.
My overall experience at Kona was excellent. I booked a table for two and as soon as we walked in the hostess greeted us with a smile and led us to our table near the bar and sushi bar. We were greeted by our server in less than 60 seconds of being seated and had our drinks on our table in minutes. The kitchen was very fast and portions were generous. I will definitely be dining at Kona more often.
Check around…… I have been to this restaurant twice and was unimpressed. On both occasions they got someone’s order completely wrong. My food tasted like it was purchased as a frozen item and simply reheated. Not a place I would ever visit again. My youngest daughter thought that one of the meals was really excellent……it was not her meal it was her brothers food she was sneaking while waiting twenty minutes to get the item she did order. They brought her an item she did not even order.
Food served had not thawed… Yuck. Bad flavors, not worth the expense
Kona Grill. Food was great. Waitress really cared but the kitchen was extremely slow. Ended up comping out dessert (waited for 20 minutes)
ono kaukau. What delicious food did I have? I was very impressed with their Big Island Meatloaf. If you are envisioning a slice of typical meatloaf with a slice of pineapple on top, that aint it. It was a very good slice of meatloaf that was make with a blend of ingredients that made it better than typical. What made it special was the sauce. Not some brown gravy but with a shoyu cream. My attempt to learn what shoyu cream is was met with limited success, because the flavor seemed more complex than just some whipped cream and soy sauce. I like typical meatloaf with brown sauce, but I liked Konas version better.I heard from my wife their Lemon Garlic Shrimp Penne was also excellent. Serving sizes were also generous. The place was great, from the friendly greeting to the thanks for coming as we left. Our server also brought her A game tonight. A special request we made was handled very well. It was a beautiful evening to sit outside, which worked out great for us. As we passed back through the dining area to leave we both noticed how much louder it was inside.Located at the new UTC, I really liked our visit.
