Favorite restaurant in the Sarasota/Bradenton area. My husband and I have taken nearly all of our snowbird visitors and some locals to this restaurant run by ex-Cape Codders; we have yet to have a bad meal. Compared with many of the other seafood restaurants in the area, the Lucky Pelican has repeatedly had higher quality fish and shell fish prepared masterfully. Love the ability to sit inside or out.
Used to go but won’t go again after last night. We have been to Lucky Pelican many times over the last few years and the food has always been good and sometimes great and we have frequently brought visiting family members and recommended it to numerous friends. We won’t go again or recommend it for the following reasons:A) They are not disability friendly, my wife is 2 weeks after knee replacement surgery and we asked for a booth so that she could put her leg up, but sine we arrived just after 4pm and were told that if we wanted to eat from the dinner menu we could not be in the booth it was against policy no matter what the circumstances. I asked to speak to the manager, who never appeared.B) The booth that we referred to remained empty for the next forty five minutes which was then filled by a foursome, by that time there was another booth available and three other 4 person tables, so there was no real reason for a disabled person or any couple to not be seated at the booth.C) The hostess was also very curt and not at all friendly, a great first impression for the restaurant. D) Whe our waiter did appear, we mentioned the issue and he restated policy, I ordered a glass of wine and my wife a sprite, her sprite and water came to the table but no wine. We were also informed that we were in a mystery 15 minute window between 415 and 430 where you cannot order from either the lunch or dinner menu. There was one item on both menus bacon wrap scallops which we could order.E) When I began to wonder when I would get my wine, I looked around and saw my waiter holding my wine glass and mini carafe talking on his cell phone. When he saw me looking at him he came over still talking on his cell phone and put the wine on the table, muttering that he was talking to the contractor redoing his house. F) He finally came back and tooked our dinner order. The clam chowder was marginal and the Blackened Shrimp and Scallops over cheese grits was terribble, it was like having schrimp and scallops in a bowl of melted cheese, there were no grits. Stunning my wife when the waiter came back and asked if every thing was okay, I actually said no and that they should have the chef take a trip to Gerogia and South Carolina to learn how grits are made. I also asked to speak to the manager once again, after waiting ten minutes, I asked for the check paid it and left. Just for the record, it was on 4/25/15 at 4pm to 5pm, I am sure the parties involved can be identified.
Food is excellent. Service is inadequate. It’s a shame that you can’t get better service in a restaurant where the food is so good.
Puzzling host. This is a favorite! However when we arrived today at 4pm, there were perhaps five tables. Our friends were arriving a few minutes later and we asked to go ahead and be seated. The host took us to a small corner table. We asked if we could be seated at an open booth. The host said no, those seats were not available because our full party was not here and have us the option of not being seated or taking the seats he offered us. Fifty four seats are unoccupied. Two women came in five minutes later. He sat them at the booth that we had just requested. Strange customer service and this is the manager.
Awesome Seafood. Amazing restaurant. My husband and I were down here for 6 days and ate here 3 different times. Each time the food was perfect. We order off the special menu each time and split an appetizer. Perfect amount of food and delicious.
Restaurant review. Myself and four friends went to your restaurant yewterday. Frist the hostess was very curt. The restaurant was so hot that you could not wait to get out of there. When we all ordered we were told NO exceptions. i.e. trade two veggies for one small salad. OH NO>>>>> The lobster came and it was so tough and the chef????? did not even cut the tail to make it easier to get the meat out. NO wipes and just a really bad experience. Like the restaurant was doing you a favor. Welllllllll the mall is coming and there will be lots of choices.(Restaurants galore) beware of attitude. Will not return.
Yummy!. I have now been to the Lucky Pelican half a dozen times and, other than the wait to get a table, I have no complaints. They are all friendly and welcoming and I love that they have raw and whole options with their seafood. The oysters are really fresh and tasty and their whole steamed lobster makes me excessively happy. All around, great experience when I go.
