Great dogs. I consider hot dogs one of my favorite food groups and have worked on getting down to Venice to give Mad Dogs a try for months. Today was finally the day and I was not disappointed. I tried both a New York dog and a Hawaiian dog. These dogs are regular size so having two was not a massive amount of food.The New York dog was great. It was a little generous with the sauerkraut and a little lighter with the onion sauce than what I have had before, and to me it was perfect. The Hawaiian dog was great. I wasnt sure exactly what a Hawaiian dog would be and even subsequent online searches did not result in a super specific recipe. The way Mad Dogs did it was with pineapple, some Teriyaki sauce, and pieces of bacon. Im not talking bacon bits of of a jar, Im talking noticeable small pieces of crispy real bacon. And Im talking about a great Hawaiian recipe. Id rate the food 10 out of 10.The place is not 10 out of 10. There is no indoor seating. The have a few covered tables behind the very small building and a small table in front. It was a little windy today and keeping everything anchored was a distraction from the food. Im not whining, it was like having a little one man picnic. Think hot dog stand, not hot dog restaurant.This is mainly a drive thru place. Getting from the order window in the front to the tables in the back would involve avoiding traffic. There wasnt any traffic when I was there today but it is something to mention.My brief interactions with the staff were very good.
Excellent, friendly service. Loved this place! Best cheese fries and shakes. Miss Chicago, so this is a MUST when visiting!! The Chicago dog rocks! The best service and the friendliest girl at the window. Couldn’t be better.

I am from WI and discovered Mad Dogs last December. I have been counting the days til I go back for more. Possible the best dogs I ever had. I plan on being back in Venice in few days and Mad Dogs will top on my places for lunch. Mmmmm
