I like it with certain conditions. I don’t think I would like to sit inside but we were fortunate to acquire a great seat on the patio pier. It was a beautiful day. I will say the young lady server inside was annoyed, when we chose to change locations and made a snarky comment to take our menus, and proceeded to sneer to another waitress not realizing I was behind her. The young fellow outside was great and got a good tip. There was 3 of us, two ordered Clam Chowder and the other person ordered peel and eat Shrimp. The clam chowder was excellent and would be enough of a reason to draw me back for more. My friend said it was some of the best she ever had. The person with the Shrimp, said, just okay. She managed to spill her Margarita, and they gave her another, no charge. I got a kick out of watching the big bird steal a fry right off a customers plate.I’ll be back,.we all enjoyed the experience.
Food is ok not fantastic. Hush puppies were cool and could’ve been much larger. Service was good and beer was cold.
Just average. I ordered the Baked Horseradish Crusted Fish Filet and tried to sense any slight taste of any horseradish. I could not. The mild fish also seemed a little mushy. My wife, who had the Fish Vera Cruz chargrilled with the same fish had the better meal.Other things, both good and not so good, laced through our visit. On the food side, the bowl of Clam Chowder was pretty good and it was a large serving. The fried clams we got like an appetizer were also good. The veggies we got with our entrees were not so good. Hushpuppies were sweet and good. Mashed potatoes were not so good.Little things, like our server needed reminding to bring our drinks, the room we were in was a little warm, there were no backs on our bench seats, they dont accept Discover, we could not get the fried clam basket as an appetizer without getting (or at least paying for) the fries and coleslaw. These fall into the negative column. In the positive column, service was friendly and other than the drink lapse was very good, food arrived in good time, it was not crowded, and there was parking. There was nothing really great, and nothing terrible. Im calling the whole visit average.
If you’re spending any more than $10 for an entree, having to sit at an indoor picnic table is a little silly. We brought my grandma here for dinner (she’s 95!) and they sat us at a picnic table. The decent sounding entrees are all $15 and up (unless you want a fish and fries basket). I had the grouper Vera Cruz ($16.99)and it was terribly under-seasoned, served with a side of fries that were swimming in the vinaigrette dressing on the fish, and a side of coleslaw which arrived in a plastic condiment container :-/ The $1.99 margarita (on special with an entree purchase) was purely margarita mix and ice and arrived in a plastic cup. The fried haddock and hush puppies were good. Everything else was below average…including the wild rice which arrived in a styrofoam bowl, as did some of the other sides. The bill for three adults, a little grandma, and two vegetarian kids was $140 with (generous) tip. Did I mention that we sat at an indoor picnic table? It was disappointing.
Serving Venice Area for 16 years. The restaurant serves Thousands of people each month. All the dishes are prepared in house and we buy the freshest food items possible. The Horseradish Crusted baked fish is probably the most popular item on the menu. Family freindly and old Florida style waterfront restaurant is what you find here. Every table has a waterfront view, and the ambiance is true Florida style. The informal eatery offers a great varity on the menu . As the owner of this true Florida jewel, I would like to invite all to come and visit our little piece of paradise.
Worst seafood ever. We have been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally decided to eat there the other night. I should have known when their featured fish dishes were made with North Atlantic white fish, but I ordered the grouper anyway. It was absolutely the worst seafood I’ve ever been served. My husband tasted it and spit it out. He then brought it into the kitchen and asked them to throw it away. Our server was very nice and offered to replace it. I ordered the fried fish which was not local and it was all right, not fresh, but definitely not as horrible as the grouper. It was not the responsibility of the server to apologize for the grouper and no one else approached us. I also don’t understand why a restaurant on a river close to the Gulf of Mexico features North Atlantic fish.
