Went back to Shaner’s again tonight. It’s our favorite pizza in the Bradenton/Sarasota area, and we drive 45 minutes to get it. It’s the only place to get thin crust pizza like we had back home in Northern Minnesota. We always order two large 16 inch pizzas for just me and my husband. Because the crust is so thin, and it’s cut into squares, we swear you can eat them like candy. I almost didn’t want to review it, because I don’t want it to get so busy, we can’t get in. I don’t know how to describe it because cracker crust isn’t correct, and I know lots of places call their pizza crust thin and it’s nothing like Shaner’s. It’s just really awesome Upper Midwest style thin crust goodness. My photo has pieces missing because, I just couldn’t wait to get it in my mouth!
A good hometown place. Better known for their pizza, I got their Philly Cheesesteak. It was on a nice soft bread and had that perfect taste. The fries that accompanied were also seasoned and good. It all made for an excellent dinner. Im happy to see Shaners back at my end of town, we used to visit when they were at Clark and Beneva so many years ago. After bouncing around they have landed in Gulf Gate, a smaller place that was pretty busy tonight. I was surprised at the size when I walked in (about 7 tables) so I just cozied up to the bar. It was nostalgic to see the tables they are using were from the first restaurant with the baseball card tops.Being small and busy it was a little noisy, but busy places are often very good places. They have some TVs to watch sports. The servers kept quite busy too, but with an ease that comes from experience. My dinner was a hit with me.
New Location. Shaner’s has moved to Gulf Gate! 6500 Superior Ave. Sarasota, FL 34231. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Shaners-Pizza/1502505136687886
Very friendly staff and great food. My wife and I went there on a restaurant. Com coupon. Being new to the downtown eateries . We were very impressed with the cleanliness and large portions. Food was served hot and our waitress was always checking to see if there was anything we needed. We split a taramisu and my wife though it was one of the best ever. Nice and light. I am sure will be back again.
Poor control. I attempted to go to Shaners on last Friday night at 6:45pm. However when I came in the door with my wife and 4year old, we were immediately told that the kitchen was backed up and the restaurant was unable to seat us. However I find it strange that the bar was full and from the front door I could see several people sitting in booths. I also noticed that the couple in front of us was sat and the two couples behind us also got a table. I can’t help but wonder why a family restaurant did not want a child in their restaurant. However this would be the only conclusion since the hostess was focused on my son.I also contacted Shaners regarding this and I have yet to get a reply back. Big surprise!
Good, pleasant, clean. Good burgers with fries, excellent chicken/artichoke dip, good prices, excellent service. Place is clean, attractive (sports bar) and the bartender was super-friendly and efficient. Location is tucked away but worth seeking out.
Average food, crummy bar service!
