Off the charts. Okay, this is the best sushi and sashimi I’ve had in 10 years…since I lived in NYC. I’ve eaten in nearly every highly touted sushi restaurant in Tampa Bay over the last 7 years and this is clearly the best. World-class uni, toro, hamachi, etc. and beautiful presentation. Extremely creative, exciting and delicious appetizers – the grilled cobia and eggplant appetizer is one of the best things I have ever tasted. Even the dessert – the custard was amazing. My wife gave the chef a standing ovation.
This Resturaunt su*ks ass!! My son and I normally go to Yume Sushi that I must add is the best in Sarasota, well my son recovering from surgery today and is in a sling and unable to dress. Well he was having a craving for sushi so we decides I try Vizen. We got two steps in the door and we were turned away because they didn’t like his shorts. Mind you he is clearly disabled from surgery. I wouldn’t send my worste enemy to this joint. They are clearly clueless to the disabled and not handicap friendly.
Best sashimi EVER!. I love sushi, and I’ve been to many a sushi restaurants, and although I enjoy in the partaking of delicious Japanese delights, I never felt obligated enough to ever write a review on any one establishment… until today. I’m not exaggerating when I say that Vizen has the best sashimi I’ve ever had, whether it’s tuna, salmon, or uni, Vizen is the best place to go. The sashimi were so tender, it literally melted in your mouth, and tasted so good, that you need not soy sauce or any condiments whatsoever, even the octopus, which usually is tough and rubbery to some extent, was tender and flavorful, which just blew my mind and palate. Lovers of uni, look no further, for you must come to Vizen to get the best uni money can by in the Sarasota area. Even the hot sake was exceptional, but I digress. The only qualm you might feel towards this extraordinary establishment is the high price you pay for such cuisine, however, though pricey it may be, it is well worth every expensive penny for the quality of sushi that this quaint and elegant little place dishes out. A lover of sushi or perhaps just a lover of food, must come and eat at this amazing little restaurant, you won’t be disappointed.
Superb sushi, elegantly presented. Wonderful service and an attention to detail that some clients interpret as attitude. Hardly the case. Try the gyoza. Best ever
Great food but snobby attitude. Have been a frequent client of Vizen for a few years. Liked the food and atmosphere. Chatted many times with chef and his wife. One day decided to bring our 1-year old daughter to the place and what a game change it was. When we arrived restaurant was almost empty – just 2 tables occupied. However, the only table we were offered was right next to the restroom. When we asked about seating at the bar where nobody was seating at the time, the hostess (who we knew very well) went to ask chef and he said no. We were completely shocked by that. We have a quiet and polite baby plus they knew us from the past and again knew well should the baby start fussing, we would take care of that. However, they decided not to take risk of upsetting their other customers. Not really respectful at all. Not sure how they treat children in Japan but we have never experienced anything like it in Sarasota even in the most fancy and expensive restaurants, which we visit very often with our 1-year-old. As upsetting as it is, we will never go back there.
The best unagi (eel) I’ve ever had. Ever.
The sushi here is great, not of the elite but by my opinion is fantastic. Also try the spiced fried chicken if your looking for something spicy, it was my favorite part of the meal. Don’t be decieved by the hole in the wall outer appearance the inside is as elegant as any fine resturaunt. It even does have a light dress code but just to keep out the beach bums, (no swim trunks, no sleevless shirts). I highly recommend!
