Here’s what I found out about this place. 12th Street Cafe was formerly known as Gus’ 12th Street Cafe and was bought out about 2 years ago and renamed Roscoe’s 12th Street Cafe. It stayed in the same location across from Ed Smith Stadium until this year.In August 2016 it was relocated to 1100 N Tuttle Ave behind the new 7-11 at 12th and Tuttle. They took over the spot where Jager Tavern use to be. Fully gutted and renovated, much bigger restaurant, bigger staff, featuring a brand new kitchen and restaurant! My take on this is simple, fantastic food, big portions, and a good price.Best breakfast and lunch in Sarasota in my opinion. I haven’t had anything there I didn’t like so far and I’ve been there many times. My favorite is called Roscoe’s Chew Sticks which is batter covered sausage links deep fried… OMG so good! My sister who is very picky about biscuits and gravy fell in love with how they make it. If you haven’t been here in a while, please by all means, get there. You will love it! The owner is a lot of fun and very personable.
Watch your bill. We started eating here about 2 months ago I thought we had finally found a great little breakfast place, we eat out every Saturday and Sunday morning went in this morning and I was just not that hungry so my husband and I decided to share a helping of the biscuits and gravy that took 15 minutes to get and was reheated in the microwave oven , it was not very good and really talked back to me all day. As we are waiting the waitress I guess thought we didn’t order enough food and told the owner that we were going to share one plate of food, they preceded to talk about it and then and there he the owner decided that we should have to pay a 1.00 up charge WTF, really I know it’s a dollar but there is nothing any were in that place about a share charge , but the way he did it , he pulled up a chair and sat down at my table like he was my best friend in the whole world and said he was in business and it was only fair to share the cost and it was still cheaper then getting two meals , it was not the cost it was the fact I did not want a whole meal. This man is not a business man he is a scammer, he just lost two potential good customers over a dollar. Not a good way to do business in my opinion.
Good but not great. I stopped in for breakfast and had one of my favorite dishes, Corned Beef Hash and Eggs, which comes with either their homefries or grits. The food was good, not great. The eggs were fine, the onions in the hash a little undercooked. Their homefries, highlighted in their menu, were thin slices of unseasoned potatoes. Of course that was easily improved by me with some salt and ketchup.Service was a casual friendliness that was very genuine and fit the style of the restaurant. The food took a bit over 10 minutes to serve but on this relaxing Saturday morning I was in no hurry. 12th St Caf is located just across Euclid Ave from Ed Smith Stadium where the Baltimore Orioles have spring training. The caf shows their support for The Birds with pictures and signs.
Where is the world today can you get 2 eggs, 3 slices of bacon, awesome grits, toast, and a drink for $4? All served by your Mom. If I lived here, I would eat breakfast here 3 time a week.
Nick is a MASTER on that griddle. Have returned with many new people
